N64/Zelda hacking tools (DList conversion etc)
HeavyZ replied to xdaniel's topic in Community Projects
Keep it up, I'm actually a little excited just thinking we might soon be looking at custom maps/models on the actual N64 console ^ ^ out of the 3 major hacking/programming communitys for N64 games (Mario 64, Zelda 64, and Goldeneye/Perfect dark) we will have at least 2 fully hardware compatible (Zelda, Goldeneye/Perfect Dark), as long as we're not using out dated programs and doing things correctly. -
Nice model so far! that looks great

So I really hated the english dub of BTOOOM it sucked on so many levels, the main character felt like a totally different person. I used to be that guy that prefered the dub, but I guess not anymore. I think it would be helpful if we got a list going eventually in another thread of suggested anime's in English, and another for suggested for subs. For example I really think the Hellsing OVA Ultimate series was way better in English, I could say the same for Dragon Ball Z, Yu Yu Hakusho, and Trigun. Although those were always generally popular animes in countrys who's main language was English. Howl's Moving Castle had an amazing cast in their eng dub.... After seeing how Horrible BTOOOM was dubbed I don't think I'm even interested in a lot of dubs anymore. There should be a company that keeps people like Funimation and others from ruining good animes.... they always use the same people for every single anime in the USA/Canada dubs and I wish they would change it up and get some new talent in once in a while... I mean seriously how do make an anime feel 80% less cool? Did they even watch the subbed version before doing the dubbing or did they just read some script and changed stuff?

Yeah I'd totally be down to test whatever is thrown at me -
I've noticed a few graphical errors in an untouched debug rom on hardware. Very small things that I thought didn't really matter like small black lines inbetween the spaces where one large area of the ground should be connecting to another. It's very small and it's not consistant it goes away depending where you are or the distance you are from the area's... It mainly happens in places like Hyrule Field... Honestly I forgot if that happens a lot in the original OoT or not. I should load it up in my N64, examine, and edit this post later to clerify if that is indeed the case or not.. I do think that it doesn't do that on the original OoT, I may regret saying that later and making myself look very nooby/forgetful Edited: Nevermind haha, no differences noticed. I only managed to spot a single thin black line if viewed at a certain spot in hyrule field between two spaces of ground, but it is the same as in the Debug rom as in is in the original OoT.

xdan, your programs are all awesome. Though I do think Airikita is only trying to be enthuesiastic about N64 compatibility and trying to get some help with her mod. If you've seen my recent thread than you know I really am all for N64 compatibility, and that I would like to encourage that. Please continue making awesomeness, you've done a lot, and I think I can speak for everyone who isn't a jackass when I say we're all thankful we are able to do so much so easily when we mod our Zelda games because of you. I hope you didn't get offened if you've read my Zelda hacking and hardware compatibility thread. I'm not a programmer, or some bad ass hacker... I just wanted people to care enough to test things if possible on hardware and help get Zelda hacking even bigger. I actually had the idea to start that thread because I was chatting with another programmer and they didn't seem to care at all about hardware compatibility.. it was just really discouraging. Keep up the good work whether it's hardware compatible or not, though if you do get any ideas on why someonthing might not be hardware compatible and you wanna test it then hit me up, if you don't care about any of that then hey I'm not downing you. Everything you do for Zelda 64 hacking is a step forward for all of us either way -
Isn't there filler data in the debug rom? You should also enable it to automatically replace all of that data into zero's and count it as free space once the program is used on the rom for the first time.. or something like that, like the program saves the rom name as a file so it realizes it's been used on the rom before. Also making the program check to see if the filler data has been tampered with by whoever before the program has had the chance to even make the filler into free space. If it's not too much, though this is already a respectable program!

This is awesome man. Great work!

I've always been the type of person who wouldn't play a console game/mod on PC unless it were to kill me. I love having an ED64 (N64 flash cart). I love playing mods like Goldeneye X, as if Rare were still alive and were doing something like releasing a game the fans were asking for. As if video games were actually still being made for the N64. Sadly the only modding community that really cares about hardware compatibilty is the Goldeneye/ Perfect Dark one. The problem is that the only programmersI ever knew to actually care about hardware compatibility was Death Basket, and he doesn't even program let alone hack anymore...... Well actually Airikita is a programmer herself and has been struggling getting her mod to work on hardware to the point that it's making her just wanna take break, after break, after break from modding it. I mean yeah if I couldn't afford an N64 flash cart (Like I wasn't able too before) I would play games and mods on emulator (like I did). Though honestly It's not the same feeling as playing on hardware. You can argue that it is the game itself that provides all of the feels, but it's not like everyone enjoys playing on PC when they have the alternative. Imagine people playing your mod, your little peice of hard work and devotion on the TV on the Nintendo 64 like it's still the mid/late 1990's the era that gave you the inspiration to mod and program. Imagine people are able to play those mods on the console they've stayed true too because you made the program to help make it possible. I'm reaching out to you guys, make it happen, it would be worth every bit of nail bitting frustration if that's what it took to make things like new maps work on hardware, or custom animations. We can't let those feels die because we get tired of modding, or programing, we gotta fight through it. You could let people experience mods the same way you had the very first time you played OoT/MM. The whole idea is something to really consider if you really want the most people possible to enjoy these mods. Save up, buy a cart, or hell ask me to test, think I'm trying to test for a little glory? Ask someone else with a cart I just wish people cared more about it.

That is gay, and I'll make sure to keep back ups of my vids

@petrie911 Oh It's been a while and I've changed things several times, sorry. The golden torch stand will light when you find the eye hidden in the webs And maybe the immortal dummy scrub I put in their is keeping a clear trigger from being activated? I'll look into it soon.. i'm not too worried about the blue switches, but If I can fix it I will. @Tommy Thanks man, and yeah I didn't know about Izou Zelda recently coming out before either. I haven't been getting online much as of late. So, no wonder not a lot of people are interested, That game looks amazing and epic, but then again look who all has been working on it.

So, I think Kingdom Hearts should have been a Nintendo exclusive series. My reasons for saying so Let's face it, the Gamecube would have been considered a way cooler system if KH1/2 was released on it. The Final Fantasy franchise got it's start on the Nintendo Entertainment System Disney + Nintendo used to = Magic, in the Nes, and Snes days. Oh, and did anyone forget about Super Mario RPG? It just seems fitting.Does anyone Agree? I think it would have affected the popularity of the Gamecube then, and even with the Wii, and more recently the WII U.

Custom maps that actually work on hardware, custom sword animations, and custom enemies. Although I think there was a thread for this here already?

@ Airikita - I definitely know what you're talking about lol and I feel you on the stress thing, believe me. I'll have to ask you about the crash debugger and everything else later. Thank you Airikita. @ petrie911 - Wow, I'm suprised you got all the way down to the bottom of the tree haha, and kinda it's just a small unfinished demo since I had to do everything over again with a new rom. If you want, try going into the Lost woods, finding the Sales Scrub, and look around for a specific gossip stone that's hidden. as for your other questions and comments: -In the basement you have to activate a different torch in the previous room, and use a stick. -I couldn't figure out how to fix that switch, I used part of a variable for a sun switch that dropped Wallmasters. Honestly I was suprised it even worked. -Good to know it works on more than one emulator in it's current state, and it's the graphics plugin I believe. I haven't noticed any texture errors on N64 hardware, before my file became too corrupt to work on it. The only thing that stopped it from working on hardware was OoT Text Tool making the file too large, I'm not sure when I made it do that, if I did, or why. -Queen Gohma's door opens when you hit the scrubs in the right combination, I planted one in their as a dummy, I made him immortal to confuse people. Thanks for the feedback and playing my mod too I will work on toning down the enemies damages to something more appropriate, and will think about what would be better for the room with several eye switches.

Well I'm feeling very discoraged about this entire project now.

So I was going to release this forever ago, but I had a lot of things I was supposed to do, I ended up having to move. Got employed full time, and I just don't have the motivation to work on it, I barely have the time to even do it if I wanted too. Things to note This was supposed to be for the demo release, but it is very unfinished. I will finish the demo version eventually Non hardware compatible- sorry but the OoT text tool did something and made my mod file super large for no reason it seems. Airikita tried to fix it for me, but for now this only works on Nemu.. I think.. I haven't tried PJ64 on this rom. The next release, and really the official release of the demo will be hardware compatible, I have a back up that wasn't touched by the OoT Text tool, it just doesn't have any new text or new music. IF anyone really wants to play this on hardware without any new music then please comment. File 1 is normal The text was barely worked on. I was going to finish the text, find a way to put in the last few songs before I released this and hacked Gohma a little more but I would have had to experiment what orders I put in what songs for a long time before I could even hope to get another song in without any help from someone who is more experienced and could help with my problem. This hack is super hard, I doubt anyone will be able to beat my dungeon, mainly because of the timed puzzle room I need to edit.. it is possible to beat, I tested it and beat it before... barely. I mainly want to see if anyone can rise to the challenge, I will tone down the difficulty for the next release Gohma isn't finished A few different music sequences still need to be replaced, but none major, just songs like "Got the stone" or "Opening chest" and ect. I couldn't remove the map select ability, I will when I finally do release the demo if it's possible. http://www.filedropper.com/rebirthdemobeta

Ah thank you lol. We shall watch Ookami, I think it would be better to have a happy/sad movie to watch with her than have her leave my place depressed lol

I may be a bit late with this info though I am still delivering. This is what Zoinkity messeged me back a while back after I had asked him about the subject so all cred for this goes to him and should be kept especially in mind when giving credit if it does prove useful. Animal Forest uses ASM to test for keypresses, unlike the key lists like what you see in GE. The basics behind this require you to find the (usually multiple) controller read routines. Typically there's multiple controller tests, but effectively they all work the same. Button input is usually tested for by passing a controller index (0-3, although up to 6 is valid for a complicated reason) to these along, sometimes with a buffer index, and the returned value is a short (2-byte) value. The standard return value is the current buttons either pressed or held, depending on the routine, and these correspond directly with the bits assigned each button via hardware: Code: 8000 A button 4000 B button 2000 Z button 1000 Start button 0800 up-Dpad 0400 down-Dpad 0200 left-Dpad 0100 right-Dpad 0020 L button 0010 R button 0008 up-C button 0004 down-C button 0002 left-C button 0001 right-C button Control stick routines are a little different. In general they only test one direction a time, passing a controller index, a deadzone range, and sometimes a buffer index as well. The return differs depending on the type of command it is; some will give a value from -2 to +2, some the actual value if it's above the deadzone, others only unidirectional. Typically there will be 3-4 times the number of stick readers than button readers. If there's a debug string, I'd say looking for a bt of code that uses the pointer is a good place to start. Even if the string isn't used, it's a dead giveaway for the routine. Otherwise, trace and figure out the most common button reader routines, then search for every JAL to those addresses. A0 will always be the controller index unless they did something..unique. Just after the JAL should be button value tests, so look for one followed either by 0800, 0008, or 0808. Then, see if on a hit it looks for the next value in the series. Hopefully, if you're really lucky, they'll code the delays right there. Otherwise, they might set bitflags or something that's passed to each additional test. Either way, searching for the button masks is probably the easiest way to find it (presuming it's still there).

I think it would be cool if you were able to go to any dungeon in any order as long as you have to complete them all before going into a final dungeon (Who wants to skip most of the game and go straight to the end?) I haven't seen much about ALBW, but I'm assuming that's how it will be.. maybe? If I were to make a mod like that for example I would make them all challenging yes, but I would have some more challenging survival wise ,others puzzle wise, and some even a mixture of both, and I would have tons of little rewarding side dungeons that aren't neccasary to beat, and I would make it possible for the story to have different outcomes depending on the order you do things, but nothing that will effect the key main parts of the ending story.

Dude I don't care if you're working steadily on this or not just finish lol I'll wait 5 years to play this if it's done in five years lol that's just how cool it is

I have models of all different kinds, but I'm not even working on this, I'll pick it back up when I'm less busy

Moved from Tennessee back to my hometown in GA, I'm glad I'm where all my friends are again. I've been working Mon-Fri 40hrs a week. Being a welder is physically exhausting... and painful. Today I forgot to put on my saftey glasses (I rarely use them when I should be) and when I went to use a wire wheel on a dremel a wire broke off the wheel and flew straight into my eyeball. It was pretty gay, my eye isn't aggrivating me anymore, but now I've got a major headache.. Recently started dating someone, she's really sweet and nice, but we have conflicting life scheduels, and she doesn't like to talk, or text that much.. I like her, but I'm not sure how long our relationship will last.
