Kid gritted his teeth and fell silent. He knew Soul was right, but he wasn't going to admit that out loud. Shaking his head he continued on, hearing the footsteps of the others behind him.
-
Kid's eyes widen before they narrowed, "I didn't lie to you!" He snapped. "I just didn't tell you about the kishin! So what? I didn't think the information would be needed!"
-
"I'm not ignoring you, Soul!" Kid exclaimed, surprised. "I'm just thinking about what's up ahead."
-
"What is it?" Kid finally responded, glancing at his partner.
-
Kid tightened his grip on Soul's scythe handle, eyes narrowing. "Always so stupidly confident, aren't you?" Medusa's expression turned dangerous, "Shall we start the party then?" She began to chant, her tattoos rising as she spoke, "Nake, snake, cobra, cobra. Nake, snake, cobra, cobra."
-
"Uh-huh, yeah, yes sir." Came the meister trio's response. Medusa smirked again, "Holding a strategy meeting right in front of your enemy? Is that really the best idea?"
-
"Alright." Kid nodded slowly, he bit his lip. Would this really work...?
-
"How lovely to see you all again." Medusa said, smirking faintly.
-
Kid shivered, his eyes narrowing. "Hey, did you hear something?" Black*Star asked, unusually quiet. "Hear what?" Maka asked. She tensed as the sound became louder, "Yeah I heard that." "It sounds like footsteps to me." Kid spoke softly. "So, finally showing themselves. Who's it gonna be?" Black*Star mused.
-
"Why are they sitting up there waiting for us? I thought they were on their to the kishin." Black*Star voiced what was on everybody's mind.
-
"Uh huh, lying in wait for us." Spirit replied, smirking before he transformed into weapon mode.
-
Spirit smirked and gave a thumbs up. "When it comes to chasing a woman, no one's faster than I am." Kid sweatdropped, 'Is he serious?'
-
"I've got something. It's a soul just beyond those shadows. There's someone there." Maka's eyes narrowed, "I know that soul, I'm sure of it. That nasty, despicable feel...." And out of the shadows stepped, "Papa." Spirit looked disappointed, "I'm not nasty or despicable...." Kid shook his head, 'Of course...'
-
The imp merely chuckled, "I'm waiting for your decision, what's it gonna be, Soul?" -Back in the real world- The group kept running, and by now Soul, Tsubaki, Liz and Patty were in their weapon forms. Black*Star turned his attention to Maka. "We've gone a pretty long way now. Hey Maka, can you sense any witches up ahead with that little gift of yours?" Maka frowned, "Their soul protects are probably on right now." She said simply. Black*Star looked disappointed, "Oh, alright, that's lame. Sensing stuff's the only thing your decent at." Maka twitched, gritting her teeth. "You really know how to piss me off." Suddenly she tensed up and skidded to a halt followed by everyone else. "What?! What?!" Black*Star exclaimed, looking around wildly. Maka ignored him, "Professor Stien!"
-
The imp grinned at Soul, resting his hands on the ground. "Oh Soul, you should know you can't control it. Hell is something you carry around with you. Right inside your weak, flimsy little head." His grin widened as he raised his hand, "Now come along, madness is waiting for you." He looked smug, "There's no escape. You're like a needle stuck in the grooves of the record spinning round and around."
-
Maka blinked, before her eyes narrowed slightly, "So it's like he's trapped inside himself." She felt a little sorry for Shinigami-sama.
-
While they were running down the stairs, Maka spoke to Kid. "Hey Kid, how did Lord Death seal away this Asura guy in the first place?" Kid glanced back at her for a moment before he explained, "My father tore off Asura's skin, made a tightly sealed bag out of it, and then stuffed Asura inside. Then he rooted his own soul and body here in Death City to keep the kishin from ever breaking free." "And because of that, Lord Death can never leave the city?" Black*Star asked causing Kid to nod slightly. "What if the seal was broken and the kishin managed to get free? Would Lord Death be able to go wherever he wanted?" Maka asked. Kid bit his lip, that was a good question. One he didn't have an answer to.
-
Kid smiled faintly, placing a hand on her other shoulder, "It'll be okay Yuri." He said reassuringly.
-
Kid adjusted his suit while Maka brushed her cloak out of the way and Black*Star finished pulling his gloves on. Everybody was ready and determined. "We're coming." Maka voiced for all of them.
-
No one had the answer to that, so they kept moving. They needed to hurry before it was too late.
-
Kid bit his lip and stayed silent as they followed the professor. He could feel Soul's gaze on him and it made him shiver, but they didn't have time to worry about it. They had to stop those witches.
-
"It's true." Everyone turned their attention to Kid. He glared at the ground, but forced his voice to be calm, "My father explained everything to me." Glare fading, he looked up at everyone, but avoided Soul's gaze, "In order to keep the kishin sleeping safe and sound, my father can not ever leave the academy." "Huh? So there's a reason Lord Death never goes anywhere? I always thought he just wasn't much of a people person." Black*Star mused.
-
Kid looked up from where they had fallen, narrowing his eyes, "I'm sensing some witch souls up there. One...two...Eight of them! And the demon sword also." He shuddered as he remember that thing from before. Suddenly the ground started shaking. As quickly as it started, it soon stopped. Maka looked confused and worried, "What was that? What are they doing up there?"
-
-outside- "Lock!" The key turned and clicked before the cube glowed brightly, signifying the spell had worked. Free lowered his arms, looking serious, "We've got one hour Medusa. It won't hold longer than that."
-
"I'm sensing something..." Maka muttered. Kid felt the same, looking worried, 'This is not good... they're going to lock us in!' -outside- "Key create!" Free shouted and a lock and key materialized. The key floated into the lock, preparing to trap them. "Set!"
