The first one? Works fine for me in PJ64 v1.6 with Jabo's D3D v1.5.2 video plugin and the emulator's v1.6 default sound and input plugins. There's a known problem, tho, which is rather heavy slowdown... It seems to occur whenever the camera moves, for some reason, so it's pretty much constant as the camera moves when you walk around. The second one? Works fine with the same plugins, and it doesn't have slowdown.

I think the environments look great, but the characters... really don't, yeah. A bit too realistic lighting and shading or something? Whatever the case, they've lost some of the charm of the GCN version's, well, rendering.

Nintendo's a business, so it's not that surprising that they go for the remakes that are sure to sell - or anything that's going to sell, not just remakes. Not saying that I like it, as I really would love to see a MM 3D (one reason for that being that I never even finished MM on the N64, unlike OoT) but that's the way it goes, I guess... The whole thing about having to buy any VC titles that you already own for Wii, but want to play in Wii U mode (on the Gamepad, etc), again on the Wii U VC is also quite stupid. Granted, you get them for a discounted price of ~1.00 to ~1.50 $/€/whatever if you've transferred them from your Wii to Wii U, but it's still really dumb and reeks of wanting to make money. What about finally making VC a cross-platform service, where you have one account with a pool of games that you can play on 3DS, Wii U and anything else they can come up with?

Talking about LSD, I love how "Touch Fuzzy, Get Dizzy" from Yoshi's Island is called "Lustiges Sporen-Drama" (something like "Funny Spore Drama") in the German version.

Wait, so the question is: How to add a skybox, but not have time pass? Like in Kakariko? If so, yes, you can't do that in SO and have to change it afterwards using a hex editor, as haddockd said. In the generated room header, find command 0x10 and (IIRC) change the time speed to 0. Not completely sure on top of my head, tho, so alternatively check how the 0x10 command looks like in Kakariko's room header(s). More about room/scene headers and commands: http://wiki.spinout182.com/w/Maps_and_Scenes

Action Replay. Because one of those helped me get Free McBoot onto my PS2, while my N64's GS is... unpredictable. Tetris or Tetris Attack & Co.?

Ohh, another one I should've mentioned; hell, I'm currently watching NEXT... A classic!

Going by the 10/10s on my MAL account alone, and in no particular order... Honey and Clover Shinryaku! Ika Musume Dennou Coil Puella Magi Madoka Magica Welcome to the NHK! Nichijou Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! ...and the still-running Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo is shaping up to get onto that list as well. Some of the anime I gave a 9/10 are great, too, for example Seitokai Yakuindomo, Toaru Kagaku no Railgun, Bakemonogatari and Nisemonogatari, Joshiraku, Lucky Star, GA: Geijutsuka Art Design Class... well, pretty much all of them.

Hm, I tend to stick with "xdaniel" and attach abbreviations of things to that if it's already taken, like "xdanieldzd" for ex. my mail address or "xdanieldzdgcn" for Steam. Otherwise, if I need a nickname for something I won't really be using (like a forum I need to register at to download something), I just use something like "rndm" (for "random") and a number. Never really thought about changing that "xdaniel" - been called that for years now, like 10+ years.

Yep, that's true. Item-wise alone, I do like the Double Clawshot a lot for example, and I wish they'd done more with that since.

Looking around just now, I did see it mentioned as a potential glitch on one or two Zelda wikis. Someone probably would need to disassemble (part of) the game to determine once and for all. What can be said for sure is that LA's Bomb Arrows were known long before TP was in development, so even if it is a glitch, it's not too farfetched that the devs knew about it and decided to implement it as a "proper item" in TP.
-
First time I'm hearing that. I heard about them back in the day, probably even before we had internet and before I went looking for oddities in games, so I don't think that's the case... Also, it just feels like intended behavior - if it was a glitch, I'd expect an arrow to be fired and a bomb be placed in front of Link, or that the arrow fires and the bomb explodes right away, not that the bomb stick to the tip of the arrow, gets carried by it, and explodes on impact.

Nitpick, nitpick, Link's Awakening; otherwise in agreement, I guess, tho I didn't participate in the debate in the first place...

Know what? This discussion makes me want to replay TP - GCN version btw - because I last played it when it came out (trying the WW/TP debug display stuff notwithstanding) and I can't really remember much of it. All I can remember are fragments like "Wolf Link was really cool, just running around in that form was awesome", "Hyrule Field was probably too big for how little there was in it, plus the bottomless pits", "Have they since revisited the Double Clawshot or whatever it was called? If not, that's a shame", "Midna is the best sidekick in the series, period", things like that. Also, somewhat related question, how expensive is the GCN version elsewhere? Here, it's 40 to 50€ used, and there's one new copy on Amazon for 200€. Wonder what the ratio between GCN and Wii versions is, in both production and sales numbers...

Call me an old geezer, but ten years ago was a simpler time... The GBA was out, the SwanCrystal was almost dead, the GP32 had a somewhat nebulous presence, the N-Gage was still a year or so away, and out of those only the GBA was a true success. Nowadays, it seems like everyone and their mother is trying to kickstart a new console and/or handheld. Not to mention all those generic Chinese Android-based systems, or even some commercial endeavors like the Neo Geo X Gold. Oh, and smartphones. I really don't see the point in all those machines, including the Ouya.

"PanelFlip" - a WIP PlayStation homebrew puzzler
xdaniel replied to xdaniel's topic in Community Projects
Thanks for the feedback and suggestions so far! Well, there's the item panels for one. Currently, only a bomb item is implemented, which clears all panels of the same color at once, but I'm thinking about two or so more. Otherwise... maybe have some kind of "mission mode" that has goals like "clear away 50 red panels" or "make a 3x chain"? The panel graphics loading has been coded with multiple graphics sets in mind already, so having both, the SNES-style panels and the more futuristic ones, shouldn't be much of a problem. The interface and menu design is something else, tho... with that, I was originally aiming for something, I guess "playful" like the design of ex. , but I'm now leaning towards a clean, simple design similar to ex. Polarium's. And making that user-selectable would, in my opinion, be bad UI design. -
Feeling reminded of two kids on the bus a few days ago; they looked not a day older than 12 or 13, yet were talking about Assasin's Creed Revelations, which is USK 16 (ages 16 and up)... Then again, some stores don't take age verification all that seriously over here anyway, so who knows if they bought it themselves or if their parents bought it for them.

Makefiles conceptually aren't platform-specific, so any tutorial on making them for PC is also in principle valid for the DS. This one for example looks like an easy to understand tutorial: http://mrbook.org/tutorials/make/ They can get convoluted if you've got a big project or want everything to be as automatic as possible (like creating a CD image for a PSX game), but with DS homebrew you should be able to get by with something simpler than this mess: (Man, how many headaches that thing's given me already <.<)

I'm currently working on a (different) PlayStation homebrew game that's supposed to become my entry for a PSX coding contest, the deadline being in the Summer so there's still plenty of time. It's a puzzle game inspired by Tetris Attack / Panel de Pon / Pokemon Puzzle Challenge / whatever other (non-)license the gameplay was paired up with, in which you flip two differently colored panels horizontally; make three or more of the same color line up and they disappear. There's some gameplay differences from Panepon, such as somewhat modified/simplified drop mechanics as well as new item panels, that change things up a bit compared to a straight clone. So yeah, first of all here's a video I posted and shouted about earlier, which represents the game's status as of today: Secondly, I'd like to have some feedback on a change in visual design I'm thinking about... Initially, keeping with the theme(s) of the SNES TA/PdP in particular, I wanted the visuals to be kinda cartoony, with bright colors, rounded corners, few straight lines and such. However, while redrawing the panel backgrounds, I thought of giving it a cleaner, maybe even futuristic design - in particular, things like ex. Wipeout's various fonts (tho that might be too futuristic) and, in fact, Nintendo's own DS incarnation of Panepon (Planet Puzzle League I think? I have the game but forgot the title...) come to mind here. Here's a screenshot of the redesigned panels, compare those to how they look in the video above: Similarly, I'm not that fond of my in-game font anymore either. I still like it, but... I don't know, I feel it's a bit too busy, if that makes sense. A more easily readable take on Wipeout's fonts might be nice.

(tl;dr below) Flea market day has come and gone for me, and I ended up buying nothing. Mind you: buying nothing. We were looking at some random stuff inside a cardboard box, PC joysticks, some Atari stuff, etc. and the guy running the stall just wanted to get rid of the whole box at once. After some consideration, a friend of mine did buy the thing, mainly for the Atari 2600 games - Ms. Pac-Man, Donkey Kong and 6 or so others - while I was interested in a PSX lightgun that was also in the box... which he just gave to me, seeing how the Atari games alone are worth more than what he paid total, and the rest of the stuff in there he'll probably just throw away anyway, like the really dirty joysticks. And as it turns out, the lightgun is actually compatible with the PSX, PS2 and the Saturn - I just mistook that other connector on the plug for an AV port or something, seeing how there's IIRC PSX lightguns that need to be connected to the video signal. So, tl;dr: got a Logic 3 Predator lightgun, still need to test it tho that works on Saturn; don't have any PSX lightgun games.

My current avatar is of Marii Buratei, a character from the anime Joshiraku which is (to quote MAL's description): "An adaptation of a manga written by the author of Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei about group of girls who discuss random things and usually reach an unusual or humorous conclusion that's far from the initial discussion topic." There's no particular meaning behind it, besides that she's my favorite character from the show - she seems like a fun person to hang around with, is kinda lazy (which I can certainly identify with), I dunno, I just really like her. I usually have avatars of some of my favorite anime/manga characters just because I like them, and, honestly, because the avatars are rather easy to make - take a screenshot from an episode, add some filters, do color correction if needed, add a border, done.

Another glasses guy here. No idea about my eyesight on top of my head, tho, I just know I'm quite blind without them.
