  1. Yeah, so, tiny bit more info at "Jul -> ROM Hacking -> General screenshots thread". And I'm actively wondering if I should still go to bed, seeing how it's already 6 AM anyway... I'll just end up sleeping through until 4 PM if I do. http://i.imgur.com/qw0Tb.png EDIT: http://imgur.com/a/VN7LU#0 - and I ended up staying awake until noon, then I went to bed and slept until ~4 PM, and now I'm about to go to bed for the night at just past 1 AM. Note that all this has been done from almost zero. All I had documentation-wise was a doc on the PSX GPU, from which I could only gather some concepts (the framebuffer, texture pages and coordinates), nothing else.
  2. I'm currently messing around with a (to me) new approach to writing editors, using the PropertyGrid, and... hm? What's this? (REALLY early WIP, I mean it)
  3. First Sunday of the month, so it was time for the big flea market: - Mario Paint (Classics Series) PAL, complete in box (game, mouse, pad, manuals) - mouse is a bit yellowed, pad has some signs of wear, box is in pretty rough shape - Official N64 Expansion Pak, loose, good shape overall - IBM ThinkPad PSU, 16V 4.5A, ironically several years younger than the ThinkPad I'll use it with itself ...and everything's working fine. Originally only wanted to get that PSU, but oh well. Payed... what was it, 26.50 € total? 5.50 for the PSU, 8 for the Expansion Pak, 13 for Mario Paint?
  4. Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita (streaming on Crunchyroll) Muv-Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse Binbougami ga! (licensed in NA) Joshiraku Sword Art Online (Crunchyroll) Kokoro Connect (Crunchyroll) Sooo, if I'm not mistaken, four out of the six new shows I'm interested in have been either licensed or will be streamed via Crunchyroll. Damn it. Get this, world: Asia and North America are not the only places where people watch anime! Region locking streams sucks and prevents a good deal of people outside the US to watch this stuff! Don't count on local distributors in ex. Europe to pick up the same series you do, or to at least provide them streamed - they usually do not! Madoka was an exception, not the rule! Oh well. HorribleSubs, I'll be waiting for the rips -.-
  5. Have any of you ever done or are doing dumpster diving, scavenging roadside bulky waste, things like that? It's incredible what some people throw away, ex. with consumer electronics, often enough just because it's old! For example, back when I was a kid and collection of bulky waste (so furniture, TVs, etc) still followed a specific schedule for the year - as opposed to today where you call in and arrange a date for collection -, I did get things like older PCs, monitors or printers from there. My first printer, for example, a HP Deskjet 500 which has since found its way back to the dump so to speak, I got from the trash near our home - used it for some five or so more years after finding it. Nowadays I personally don't actively do this anymore, but I still get some things a friend of mine "rescues" from a recycling center, where they apparently don't mind too much if you take one or two items with you when you throw away something else. The IBM ThinkPad I got about a week ago came from there, although I don't yet have a proper power supply for it (that's what tomorrow's flea market is gonna be for), my JVC AV receiver - amp, FM/AM tuner, AV switch - I also got from there via him, as well as a bunch of smaller stuff - ex. a laptop HDD from a dead 486, the mainboard and CPU I since upgraded my mom's PC with. He also more or less constantly finds consoles there! He's got like 4 Atari 2600 now, a Mega Drive 2, a GameCube (with memory card and a copy of FIFA 06 in the drive!) and even a Xbox 360 Elite that had RRoD'ed and that we fixed with some probably not too safe voodoo. And yes, I am a bit envious of that, especially the X360's HDD (my 20GB vs his 120GB). There's usually no PSUs or cables with them, tho, besides for two of the 2600s IIRC. But again, that's what flea markets are for, because you can find at least the PSUs for pretty much everything there, consoles prior to this generation, laptops of all ages, cellphones, camcorders, everything!
  6. Nah, I'm not going to rival VBA anytime soon with this, SharpBoy doesn't even have sound and is somewhat slower, for example As for GBA support, that's a whole different beast compared to the GB/GBC - a different processor architecture for one (8-bit GB-Z80 vs GBA's 32-bit ARM7). I gotta admit it would be cool to try, but I really don't think that'll happen anytime soon, if at all. You should be able to extract the RAR archives I post SharpBoy in with pretty much any archiver out there, like 7-Zip, WinZip or of course WinRAR, so I don't really see the point in providing ZIP archives of it. What archiver are you using that you can't extract it?
  7. Flea market bargain of the month - 4€ each: ...however Red is missing the manual and flyers. Blue on the other hand is complete, only problems with the box are some barcode sticker on the back, and the fact that the front of the box got slightly warped (bend outwards a bit). The latter I think I can fix by just putting a book on top of it for a day or so. Also, from the looks of it, it might've never even been played - there's no saved data on it (which is weird considering they have no clock, so the battery should still be working), plus the back of the cartridge has close to zero of the scratches you'd expect from repeatedly inserting and removing it from the cart slot. But really, no matter if played before or not, I'm thinking this has been a bargain
  8. IBM ThinkPad 380ED: Pentium MMX 166 MHz, 80 MB RAM, 5.1 GB HDD (a mere 996 MB used despite tools and games), 10/100 MBit PCMCIA network card, PCMCIA SD/MMC card reader, Windows 98 SE + inofficial upgrade package (MS updates, I think KernelEx and other stuff) + wallpaper and OEM logo from here Machine's named "Sora" by the way. Not after the KH character, but the Digimon Adventure one, because those 380's are from 1997 and DA aired in 1998 while being set in 1999, so I think it's appropriate
  9. If you can look past cute character designs if you don't like them, and watch something on the merit of its story, storytelling and characters, I'd certainly recommend Puella Magi Madoka Magica. From Wikipedia: In this world, there exist strange creatures who have the power to grant one wish to a chosen girl. However, in exchange, that girl must then become a magical girl and use her powers to fight against witches, evil creatures born from darkness that are responsible for murders and suicides. In the city of Mitakihara, a schoolgirl named Madoka Kaname and her friend Sayaka Miki are approached by a familiar named Kyubey, who offers to grant each of them one wish in return for making each of them a magical girl. Another magical girl named Homura Akemi tries to prevent Madoka from making such a deal, while Kyubey urges Madoka by telling her she will become the most powerful magical girl. However, contrary to the glamorous notions one would expect, a magical girl finds herself dealing with death, isolation, loss of humanity, agony over the value of her wish, and existential crisis. Madoka, following her friends, soon sees the darker side of being a magical girl, and because of knowing the truth about being a magical girl, she questions if she should become one as well. Besides that, maybe there's something on my anime list at MAL (already sorted by score) that might be interesting?
  10. The 2012 summer season is starting in just over a week, so it's a new chance for anyone to start watching some new anime, and Random Curiosity posted their usual preview: http://randomc.net/2012/06/20/summer-2012-preview/ And from the preview, interesting to me seem: Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita Muv-Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse Binbougami ga! Joshiraku Sword Art Online Kokoro Connect ...although I bet I'll end up watching only one or two of them after all. Maybe Kokoro Connect, Joshiraku or Sword Art Online? Dunno, I'll wait for the first episode posts for all to come out, then decide if I'll watch the episode myself. Also, Madoka Magica came out on DVD over here over the last few months, so I rewatched it over that time, and with the German dub and together with my mom even. Gotta say, only got a few complaints about the dub (like how Sayaka's VA could've been a bit better in... more emotional moments, let's put it this way fuck you Urobuchi! ;_;), but overall it was pretty good. Kyubey's VA especially was as... cold calculating good as Emiri Katou was, in my opinion, and I unexpectedly quite liked Kyouko's VA's performance. I say "unexpectedly", but then again, I believe the last role I heard her in was Takeru/TK in Digimon Adventure those 12 or so years back, so yeah...
  11. Here's a probably controversial statement from me: Every Nintendo handheld design after the original DS "Phat" is boring as hell. There, I said it, but bear with me as I explain why I think so. Also, remember, this only concerns their looks, not the hardware or the games. I personally think every Nintendo handheld after the original DS back in 2004/2005 has been looking awfully boring and flat, plus the DS Lite felt uncomfortable to hold and play, and was very flimsy. Not sure about the DSi and XL, but from the looks of it they don't seem much better. The 3DS feels much better than the aforementioned DS'es from the Lite onwards, but it still looks much the same. They all, including the Wii, kinda seem like wannabe Apple products - "sleek" and "stylish" and all those buzzwords. Neither the Wii, nor the DS Lite, nor DSi, nor DSi XL nor 3DS looks... unique, I guess? Quite the contrast to the idea of "dokusou", the uniqueness and originality Iwata mentioned during the pre-E3 Nintendo Direct that's supposedly been guiding Nintendo. Each significant upgrade (thus not GB to Pocket to GBC) or successor to a Nintendo console or handheld prior to Wii and DS Lite recieved a design that was more or less unique among Nintendo's hardware, surely being inspired by previous designs - GBA SP to DS, for instance, or maybe GBA to Micro -, but bringing enough to the table itself to become something of its own. The GBA doesn't look like the GBC, the DS doesn't look like the GBA, the N64 not like the SNES, the GCN not like the N64. However, the Wii U does look very similar to the Wii and the 3DS rather similar to the DSi. Maybe I'm too critical of the "modern Nintendo" here, with all the attention directed at having a broad appeal and all that, plus, again, the hardware itself as well as the games are still overall good stuff, but it just feels like there's something missing from them. That spark of individuality that Nintendo and other companies had back in the day, that wish to not look like everyone else, as opposed to blending in with the competition as much as possible. (And for the record, the bulky old original DS is among my favorites, if not the favorite, of Nintendo's handheld designs. Screw those who think it's ugly )
  12. As in, can you use G2Map to change the stats of Pokemon like ex. the base stats? Not yet. I didn't really think about that, actually, although I'm also not sure if that's in the scope of a map editor. Maybe I'll make a separate Pokemon editor for that, I dunno.
  13. This'll be an interesting challenge... plus, I'd get to finally redo that typo- and grammar-fail-ridden German translation of mine.
  14. Departure, Esperanto, Resistance, Neo Arcadia and Hell's Gate Open are probably those that stand out to me the most... no wait, add Area of Zero to the list... and Enemy Hall... no, really now, they're all great and I can't decide!
  15. Status update time, tho there's not much to report... The design document for SO #3 takes quite a while to write. Well, obviously it's not exactly the writing itself, but thinking everything through and such. In fact, I'm only two and a half pages in yet. Wavefront .obj and .mtl command support has been determined, the SO internal structure of scenes and rooms has been as well (with things like support for alternate object sets being part of the planning) , I've written down some random related ideas that may or may not influence SO as well. I am still far from finished with this, so it's of course also still a long way until actual coding can start. I really want to not dive in head first yet again, like I did with pretty much every other project so far. And we've seen how bloody well that worked out with SO, haven't we? I'll send the doc out to some people, who I think would be able give useful feedback and so on, once it's grown by another 5 pages or so... and please don't ask for it, I'm already rather sure about who I'll ask for feedback.
  16. The artwork for LA DX is kinda... ugh. "Imma in ur izland slayn ur oktorokz!" or something. The original LA's Japanese boxart looked better, despite being in the same style. Also, a short trip to a flea market earlier netted me an official PS2 Memory Card for 3€. Had nothing else of real interest there, tho...
  17. Relevant to this thread are the two things on the left. Especially the top one~ <3 The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time - NTSC-J! Boxed (with the awesome cover art), with the manual and controller config sheet, a bunch of flyers, and a sheet of C- and A-button stickers for noting down Ocarina songs or something! (Also Cyber Troopers: Virtual On NTSC-J for Saturn, and unrelated to the thread: A Certain Scientific Railgun book 4 and Puella Magi Madoka Magica DVD 3) Also, two things of note: 1) the price sticker saying 6800 Yen (close up below). According to Nintendo's Japanese website for the game, the game launched for 6800 Yen, so I'm guessing this sticker is at the very least from when this copy was new. Also, 2) see the flyer for Link's Awakening DX above, and the date of December 12th? The game launched December 12th 1998, a few weeks after OoT's launch on November 21th of that year. All this makes me wonder if this was a launch copy of the game, although I'll probably never be sure about it, short of finding a receipt from late 1998 in the manual or something. Still need to dump the cart, or at least try some codes ex. the language changer, to confirm the ROM version - here's hoping it's v1.0, mainly for the "coolness factor" I guess, tho I wouldn't mind v1.1 or v1.2 either. See below! Oh, and before I forget, there's a saved game on the cart: player "Kabamaru" who has died 5 times... and has just gotten the Hylian Shield. EDIT: Oh man... you know how there's "notes" sections in manuals for you to write passwords down and such? OoT has this: This is where the missing C-button stickers went. This copy of the game has a physical history of having been played. To me, something like this is almost better then having a rare game or something... Ah, and the ROM dump is done, let me just move it over to my PC here... *grabs USB stick and goes to copy* ... *old laptop's slow USB is slow* ... Alright, looks like it's v1.2 according to the header. A wee bit disappointed, but then again all three versions were compiled before the game even came out, so whatever. Guess it's from early to mid-1999 then?

    This or That?

Halo. Barely played either, but I prefer Halo's setting, world and such. Sony PlayStation or Sega Saturn?
  19. Did I really just spend one and a half hours installing and messing around with Rainmeter on my laptop, modifying the default style, scraping together other pieces of code? Apparently, yes: http://i.imgur.com/yxNQF.jpg ...and I'm not even done! ...and yes, that's a 24-hour clock, so it really is almost 5 AM. Really gotta go to bed! EDIT: ... EDIT2: Better post a screenshot without artifacts from 7's Snipping Tool still on screen

    This or That?

YouTube. I barely even watch TV anymore nowadays. YOU FREAKING PONY! <.< E3. Usually more interesting, press conference-wise. Mega Man 2: Wily Stage 1 or Mega Man 9: Flash in the Dark (Wily Stage 1)?
  21. RT: "Goodbye, Mr. Trololo: Eduard Khil dies after stroke" RIP

    This or That?

Softmod. Often far easier to perform, and there's usually update-prevention measures you can take to not lose it. MD/Genesis or SNES controller?
  23. Lemme rant a bit here, will ya... For one, I've just been trolled by a shower of rain. Going out to do some grocery shopping about 40-50 minutes ago, the skies were a bit cloudy but nothing too serious. Coming back out of the store, there was heavy downpour and I, of course, didn't have an umbrella with me. And now, some 20 minutes after arriving back home, the rain's nearly stopped again. It's like the shower was waiting for me! Also, said store is closing down permanently in two weeks. It's a rather small branch of a discount supermarket chain over here ("N"), which in turn is owned by a large cooperative group whose main supermarkets ("E") are known for being somewhat expensive. And guess what's right next door to our small "N" here? One of exactly those more expensive "E" stores, offering at least some of the same brand-name products for a good 20 to 30 cents more! Sure, they also have no-name products, but - at least when it comes to food - most of it is, in my opinion, awful. Some of the canned stuff they have tastes like dogfood, or at least how I imagine dogfood to taste as I've never tried it. So yeah, starting Monday 18th, I and anyone else who can't always afford the more expensive supermarkets - ex. the elderly and/or poorer people living in this suburb -, will have to say good-bye to getting cheap groceries "around the corner", and instead either go further, out of our suburb and closer to the city center, to shop at ex. other "N"s, "A" or "L", or bite the bullet and go shopping at "E". ...actually, to hell with the letters, our "N" closing down is a Netto Marken-Discount, the expensive "E" is the Edeka Group, "A" is Aldi Süd and "L" is Lidl.
  24. And I'm jealous of the 64DD and the F-Zero X Expansion Kit! D: But man, that's a nice haul for sure. Have fun, whatever you'll be doing with it (play, display, reverse-engineer, whatever ).
  25. http://rt.com/art-an...eduard-hil-466/ "Russian singer Eduard Khil who became an internet sensation two years ago is in a coma after a stroke. The 77-year-old stage star is in intensive care as he has suffered irreversible brain damage." I have no words. (And no, pun not intended.)
