  1. Most of you have probably stayed on top of the updates we've been making to the ipBattle system we recently added, but just to be clear, here's what's been going on. Originally we had it so that you could steal money from your target in absurdly high amounts just by dealing more damage than they dealt to you. This has been amended so you can only steal money if you kill your target, and not nearly as much will be stolen. Similarly, we had it so that a very small amount of money would be generated every time a user makes a post or creates a new thread. This amount has been increased by a decent amount to further encourage activity and make items in the shop more affordable. In addition, we've increased the money generated for users per day; however, this only applies when you have less than 10,000 ₹. The biggest and most recent update you'll notice is that everyone's stats should have skyrocketed quite a bit--this is because with the current system we had, there was no way anyone would be able to use the higher-level weapons and, similarly, no way anyone would eventually be able to beat Shadow Fire (doing the math, on average it would require an orchestrated attack consisting of over 100 members all at level 250, I don't see that happening anytime soon ). Essentially, what's happened is that we've adjusted the level-up stat gain bonuses to range from 15-30, versus the original 5-15. To ensure fairness, all users who have gained levels have had their stats adjusted to reflect this change. Finally, weapon strengths have been adjusted to accommodate this change to stat progressions, such that everyone should be able to use all weapons around the level they would normally become unlocked. I will be monitoring the latest change to ensure that it works as intended, and if not, adjustments will be made as necessary. Any further suggestions for improvement are always welcome.
  2. Hate to say it but W3schools is pretty much as good as it gets. The examples they provide are in-depth and interactive (which is great since it provides an easily updated sandbox for practicing different tags), and the description and information they have is fantastic. If you're struggling with the tutorials and guides they provide then you definitely will want to stick to just basic HTML for now, PHP gets a lot more complex with the introduction of basic programming aspects, such as variables and conditional statements. Best I can recommend is to start at the very beginning and take things at your own pace until you get a feel for what each tag does, then move on to the next guide on that site.
  3. >sees new skin >uses >sees donate button >uses Everything about this new skin is an epic win. lim x-->infinity (gratuity) DNE.
  4. Entry FC-0174 The recent uprising by our rival guild, the so-called Evil Magistrate, has been temporarily suppressed on numerous occasions by those who remain faithful to me. Tactical strikes will be continually planned to cripple their resources so they do not further impede our progress, as they have begun to manage to do, much to our annoyance. The Chosen continue to prove a double-edged sword, helping our efforts to suppress the Evil Magistrate, yet also abruptly turning on us in an effort to abate the prophecy. I question the logic behind the placing of these guardians; fate may be a fickle entity, but you cannot change what has been laid out in the tangled skein that is existence. We shall continue to grow in strength and numbers until we can tackle these nuisances once and for all. Until then, we will need to keep a steady supply of resources to maintain our defenses in this war of attrition. The power of the Chosen is immense, indeed, but not infinite. Sufficient force could certainly bring them down, this much remains clear. Be patient, Kusai. Your savior comes soon. --N.
  5. QFMFT Why people insist over nitpicking on miniscule details such as how to shove a game into a canon storyline or the most fundamental basics of how a given universe works is completely and utterly beyond me. We could speculate for years about what the molecular composition of the bricks in the original Super Mario Bros. was, but we won't, because it's pointless and ridiculous. Things like shoving Zelda games into a specific timeline strike me the same way; I don't look at every object I ever encounter when playing a new one as though it's an artifact from a previously released or future game. I just enjoy the scenery, the combat, the puzzle-solving, and the (more often than not, anyway) fantastic storyline and presentation, all wrapped up in a familiar overall universe with those recurring themes that I and so many others love.
  6. I get the feeling Shadow Fire may disperse cash injections every now and then if there ends up being a trend with all the money going in one person's pocket, just to keep things fair. Another good idea is to either drop off some of your funds in your guild's treasury (and if you don't belong to one, go join Finlandcycles, we are winners en masse :V) or go ahead and spend your money on recovery items so it can't get stolen if you happen to die.
  7. Every member gets a certain amount of money every day as long as they have less than 10,000 ₹. In addition, posting topics and replying to threads also earns you a bit extra money. Also, since the only use for money in the system is buying recovery items (which is largely moot unless you want to quicken experience gaining, like you said, since you recover in an hour), I don't see much need to provide more ways to get money, though I'll leave that to Shadow Fire's discretion.
  8. And that's why I hate capitalism in its natural form. It's also why I've begun to shift my monetary support to more indie developers, because these are people who don't have a huge franchise to slap their game ideas onto, thus propagating the entire idea of gimmicks infecting the series we've all come to know and love. The big three console developers--Nintendo is hardly the only culprit, I will defend that notion vehemently--really seem to have lost sight of the fact that they're making video games for their fans. What's wrong with taking a risk when you have so much money stockpiled that even if it's a total flop, it barely makes a dent in your overall funds? Yet we constantly see successes like LIMBO, Bastion, and Minecraft that come from much smaller developer groups (or even the one-man team of Sinister Design) that take the same risks and end up seeing a huge payoff. Why is this? Because they make good games. TL;DR Games sell because they're good, not just because they're part of a giant franchise. Please re-learn this, Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony.

    This or That?

Torchlight II; having played the first one, I can attest it is addicting as all merry hell, and I'm eagerly awaiting to play the second one. Half-Life or Second Life?
  10. Take it from me, it absolutely isn't easy getting over social anxiety; I'll agree any day of the week that I'm by no means an expert on social conduct and how to make tons of friends, but I do know a few things that can be done to at least improve somewhat. Hard as it might sound, you really need to push yourself out of your comfort zone and go to social events--this becomes a hell of a lot easier once you get past 18, which I'm pretty sure everyone who's posted here is. I can definitely relate if that doesn't come naturally to anyone; I'm always perfectly content to hole up in the library commons listening to music and dicking about on my computer (much like I am right now), and heading back to my dorm for the night as soon as I've eaten dinner, usually by myself. While I'm content to eat alone, I do occasionally force myself to go along with some outings with one guy I met through an engineering project, which usually involve his fraternity brothers. Even if I don't necessarily want to, I go along with it anyway, and more often than not I look back and realize I had a really good time. I can say the same of just about every other time I broke my habit and went out with a few friends or more or less total strangers instead of holing up at home. As for romantic affairs, all I can say is that's something you shouldn't actively look for unless it comes to you naturally and you have a really good feeling about it or really want it, or you're already settled and it's something you can realistically handle and devote yourself to. Take it from someone who's made it through a four and a half year relationship that would have lasted longer if things had gone my way at the time--making a relationship work and staying happy isn't always easy, and it requires a considerable amount of time and devotion. Probably the most important thing I can say is to hang in there and don't ever give up. Craptastic as life can get, the bad times only serve to give us a contrast to when things are better, and believe me, it's worth toughing it out. Just keep doing what you can to improve your social skills and break out of your comfort zone, and you'll build up a circle of friends, and likely a good deal more self-confidence to boot. That, in turn, will likely help you get the other thing you're looking for, Shade.
  11. +1 tip of the hat to you good sir. Welcome to the GCN, we hope you enjoy your stay. If you have any questions, feel free to ask any of our staff and we'll help you as best we can.

    Is it racist?

Corrected myself. Today I also thought right meant left. I'm going to stop typing without you fact-checking me. <.>

    Is it racist?

Yes, but surprisingly enough, it's more racist against the Japanese, in my opinion (and also against people with dwarfism, for some reason). People in the mid 1900's were pretty fucked up.
  14. The camera had me impressed; the printer has me floored. Superb work, xdaniel; there really isn't anything else that needs to be said.

    This or That?

Hannibal Lecter. Just look at my avatar. I'd much rather get eaten alive by this sexbomb than a burn victim who's never heard of nail clippers. Yes, I can say that and maintain my heterosexuality--don't worry, you can too. Fine wine or vodka shots?

    This or That?

Apple juice. Orange juice (at least when it has pulp) tastes like chalky, chunky crap to me. Deafness or blindness?

    This or That?

Twilight Princess. I hate her OoT design, she looks like such a typically helpless damsel in distress. At least she actually had a sword in TP and it's implied she was ready to fight. Live orchestra or computer-played sequences?
  19. For the moment, going by what Shadow Fire said, modification of the core scripts isn't something that can be done, but that might change somewhere down the line. I'll talk to him some more about it tomorrow and see if we can't find a viable solution to this problem. I am almost positive there should be an opt-out button somewhere around here, though, seriously. It's just a matter of finding it... =_=
  20. To address a couple of the concerns some users were having Shadow Fire just made some adjustments before heading to bed. For instance, there is now no longer any chance of stealing money from a user just for attack them if you win the battle (deal more damage than they did, not necessarily kill). Earning a kill will generate money for you, but will not deduct anything from the person you defeated. There is an option to PM members whenever they are attacked an we have that enabled, but it doesn't seem to be working properly--related issues include guild membership invitations and join requests. A possible alternative is to disable attacking users who are offline altogether, what do you guys think of this? Also, Blinx, I only sicced my lackeys on you once, but called them off after that, because I love you. <3
  21. If it's any consolation xdaniel, there's no penalty for dying other than losing money (which is only useful for buying items to restore your stats, which, in turn, is only useful if you actually want to play the game). Better weapons are automatically unlocked as you progress in levels, and some weapons are only accessible to certain guilds, though those are very few in number compared to universally available weapons. I want to say there should be an opt-out button somewhere, but I've been unable to locate it both in the user interface and battle system management panel. Either way, though, it has no bearing on your status in the forum and is completely unrelated, so there's no penalty whatsoever if you don't want to play. Far as I know the scripts governing the system can't be modified too much; there's some flexibility regarding attack resets, leveling, items, weapons, and the like, but the general system itself exists in the same format everywhere I've seen, leading me to believe that can't be tampered with too much. I'll direct Shadow Fire to this thread so he can answer these questions with more confidence than me, though.
  22. ASHE, THE POWER OF FINLANDCYCLES COMMANDS YOU TO GO SLAP BLINX ABOUT THE FACE AND NECK MORE. THAT IS ALL. Why, yes, we are, in fact, recruiting. </advertising> I'm with wolfkid on this; IBP battle is such a guilty pleasure. >.>

Italian. Oh, come on Ashe, did you expect me to not waltz in and ruin your evening with this? Pfft. Hailstorm or firestorm?
  24. I smell massive admin-sanctioned guild wars approaching in the near future. The bloodblath shall be glorious. > Definitely loving these new features, hopefully this will help bring the community that much closer together.
  25. I've seen DeathBasket load up 3 Ghoma actors at once, but I was almost certain multiple different bosses would be impossible to get working because of conflicting cutscene data--looks like I was proven dead wrong. Very nice work, Airkita!
