  1. I find comfort in having a defined purpose in life, myself. I am not religious in the slightest, I prefer not to care about this, as I am a proud Agnostic. I find more value in my finite existence knowing that I have a purpose, something that truly makes me happy and impacts others in a very good way, and it bothers me slightly being told by someone else that my life has no purpose. But that's just my two cents, not trying to stir any more things up, it's just my personal feelings on the matter. That's all. I believe that I have a purpose and nothing is going to shake me of that belief.

Sums up my opinions, basically. I'm here to make four things: Friends, 3D models, laughter, and more Grooseland. The rest is just icing on the cake.

  2. Look, all I'm saying is, PS All-Stars is adding to a genre. That's all it's doing. Every game, EVERY GAME does it

    ...

By the logic I see thrown around many websites and blogs I read, every game in existence is a shameless ripoff of something, and we all know that isn't true.

First line seems to suggest that every game adds to a genre without any exceptions, yet you seem to be trying to convey in the second line and several other spots throughout this thread the exact opposite, that some games do, in fact, bring something entirely new to the table rather than work in an existing genre, however small or large a niche it may be.

Just thought I would point out the contradiction here, you might want to amend your statement, because you seem to be saying all games add to a genre, except they don't.

People who are passionate about gaming are always going to be loyal to the gaming companies that make them happy, and will often try to find fault with competition because it threatens the company they love so much. It doesn't just happen in gaming, either; take just about any product with multiple manufacturers, and you'll see people compiling lists of reasons why products made by one group or another are crap.

That said, as to why this game in particular is getting so much crap (which I'll agree isn't really justified as the gameplay is similar but the main idea of scoring is quite different, or at least as different as it can be while fitting in the same niche genre) is because it's one really big company borrowing ideas from another really big company--news like this just can't get covered up and it spreads like wildfire, and inevitably reaches the ears of someone who fits into the mindset I described above. Essentially, just 1upping the point To Coool was making, because it's quite valid.

  4. You're correct, I haven't looked past videos, screenshots and a few articles that surfaced when the game was first announced during the last E3, so if I don't correctly understand something about the game, I'll readily concede that. Having just taken a look at how the combat system works though, it looks like it's still borrowing from the idea of Final Smashes, though scoring in the game seems more oriented around using those powerful attacks to instantly kill opponents rather than knocking them off the stage, which I'll grant is certainly original. So I'll amend my previous statement to say it's definitely more inspired than ripped off, and it looks reasonably solid.

  5. Well, yeah, of course there is; most of my non-indie gaming budget ends up in Nintendo's pockets, and I view both Sony and Microsoft with a wary eye because I disagree with the stances they've taken in several cases. I should clarify, though, I'm not dissing the game--it sounds like a lot of fun and a completely different roster for a game genre I like is awesome to me, I'm just commenting that the engine and mechanics of the game look to be near verbatim identical to SSB, even utilizing the damage percentage feature which, to my knowledge, was pioneered by SSB.

  6. While the idea of basically Super Smash Bros. but with Sony characters sounds interesting, I find it difficult to ignore the rather blatant conceptual theft that's happened--I mean, they aren't really even trying to cover it up at all, they basically ripped off SSB as a concept and made their own game out of it. But hey, I guess if the game sells and people like it, good for them.

  7. That's scary? Huh.

-- Transmitted by an ancient satellite from across the cosmic web. Or my cellphone, if you prefer.

Clearly, sir, you have yet to actually play this game in a dark room, by yourself, while all your friends torment you with scary shit over a Skype call (i.e. doing it right). >:V

  8. And if you want something posted on the wiki you can just ask a mod or admin to post it for you? Maybe this will help with less spam. Just posting out of curiosity. :) Not sure how wiki's work.

That would defeat the entire purpose of the wiki as being a well of extensive information accessible to and editable by everyone. You might as well just post tutorials and documentation on a forum, much like has been done on the GCN in varying areas.

  9. What I like is that these mods go above and beyond the simple rugged approach of just porting the display list and making it show up properly, instead electing to expand on the features by adapting it into a workable feature for the game, such as with the modified colors of spells for the Dark Link mod or porting over most of the equipment for MM Link. Very impressive, and I hope to see more, bro.

  10. Being that a decent chunk of what makes up a Zelda game (and, preferably, any fan-made projects as part of the franchise) are the puzzles and the story, I'd have to hear your ideas on that before making any calls on whether a project like this would turn out good or not so much. Still, I definitely like the quality of what I see in these screenshots.

  11. Thanks for pointing that out Blinx, I don't always pay attention to which forum a thread is in, might not have caught this otherwise. Thread moved to the appropriate subforum.

Homebrew games are always interesting, I might look into this later.

  12. Got an early jump on the latest Humble Indie Bundle and snagged a bunch of games for $5.50, including:

    • Rochard
    • Shatter
    • S.P.A.Z.
    • Torchlight
    • Vessel
    • Dustforce
    • BIT.TRIP RUNNER
    • Gratuitous Space Battles
    • Jamestown
    • Wizorb

So far I've only busted open Torchlight and managed to beat it after a few days--the final boss is a real douche, though, as he takes so long to kill. More of a battle of attrition than anything requiring true skill. Still, I found the game pretty enjoyable overall.

  13. Premises

    Food = 1

    Not food = 2

    Proof

    0 x 1 = 0 (where the hell is my Ramen D:<)

    0 x 2 = 0 (where the hell is my kitchen D:<)

    Therefore, 0 x 1 = 0 x 2

    Common factor of 0 leads us to (0/0) x 1 = (0/0) x 2 (oh god my house D:)

    Simplified, this reads: 1 = 2

Substituting our variables, we get: Food = Not food
