  1. Have to go with Spire here; many a project on Glitchkill has met an untimely end because people started out a project with little more than "I want to make a mod with custom dungeons, textures, etc." which tells us nothing about what the project actually intends to do. If you want people to get interested in it, I recommend first coming up with a story for your mod, and specific ideas for dungeons at minimum. Ideally you'll want to flesh out your ideas as much as possible and have a clear but concise outline of what needs to be done for your project to be realized.

Also, as a dungeon designer who has suffered from vague directions given by project leaders, please don't just say "someone make the inside of a dungeon" with nothing more to go off of than it being referred to as the Wind Temple. What items will the player have at their disposal? What sort of puzzles should the player be expected to solve at that point? If you don't have answers to these questions, then you're probably not in a position to ask someone to go to the trouble of designing the dungeon for you. Creating a map off a blueprint is one thing; designing it from nothing more than an ambiguous title is something entirely different.

  2. It is, because paid DLC can easily cause disparity between players who are able to make purchases for digital content and those who aren't. If Nintendo goes this route, anyone who chooses to buy the extra characters likely won't be able to play with anyone who can't afford to get the DLC--unless they choose to lock certain characters that you have to pay for but leave the content for that character in the game a la Soul Calibur. However, that's an even poorer decision in my opinion, because I strongly disagree with something as critical an asset as a character in a fighting game having a price tag on it in addition to what you paid for the game.

  3. Do you have any maps from Shadowing Dawn? I had always been interested in that project but had joined the community too late.

Yeah, I still have all the ones Nate sent my way for previews, but a good many of them are too impractical to import into the game (either mapped with hi-res textures, too many polygons, or too large in scale). I wasn't responsible for too many of the maps, and most of them are much too old for me to consider posting up here, and of course I don't want to step on Nate's toes by posting his work.

  4. Ahh, the Temple of Light and the dream bridge, both fantastic maps, Jason. Might as well toss in some of mine:

Probably the map I'm most proud of that I've uploaded video footage of, this was intended to be a full 3D remake of the existing Market map.

The Palace of Earth done for the URA Project, probably the largest map I've ever made.

Something I may or may not release in the future. Mind, this is a very small part of the intended final product.

  5. I had the same problem with the Palace of Earth, which is why the design ultimately had to be scrapped even though the first design was totally done. That, and puzzle design isn't my forte, and it didn't help that Zeth was notoriously scarce for helping with specifics on dungeons.

Addressing Spire's uncertainties, a subterranean Hyrule Castle was planned to be a full dungeon, and the Palace of Souls hallway was imported into the Debug ROM before Second Life, so that did see some degree of completion (though that was all that was done for that dungeon).

  6. I was wondering if anyone had screenshots, videos or music of the Deepwood Shrine? (Not in concept art form)

was either Deepwood Shrine or the Temple of Wood, can't remember which. If it was the latter, then to my knowledge, no content was ever made for Deepwood Shrine other than the music.

  7. After familiarizing myself with the QR code feature in Animal Crossing: New Leaf, I thought I'd make a thread for people to post their custom clothing designs and share with the community. I'll start with my top three:

  8. I'm not personally attached to the F-Zero series have only played the one for N64 and not being the biggest fan of racing games, but I have to agree with you, xdaniel, this is absolutely a double standard that Miyamoto is imposing on this franchise, and it's disappointing at best and shameful at worst. Especially with New Super Mario Bros. 2, I was disappointed with where the series is going, there's nothing new about basically releasing Super Mario Bros. 3 for the 3DS with coins raining everywhere and time trials--that's shovelware, not an actual game. There's more than a fair bit of hypocrisy in his words by claiming he wants a new installment in a series to be original and fresh.

  9. 3DS: Pokemon SoulSilver (Animal Crossing: New Leaf is currently sitting there in sleep mode and has been played continuously for... like the last week?)

    Wii: Animal Crossing: City Folk

    GCN: Super Smash Bros. Melee

    GBA: Pokemon FireRed

GBA SP: The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening

    PS2: Enter the Matrix

  10. Too late, I think. They showed their true colors by announcing the console with all of these restrictions, and that was enough to turn a huge number of people away beyond the point of return. Even if they pull a complete 180, I have a feeling most people won't be suckered in by it. There's also still the issue of the relatively prohibitive price tag and the (almost) always-on Kinect.

  11. I noticed for the desert map, there are some lighting seams between the polygons that make up the mountain and the sand hills which make it look a bit odd. You can correct this by adjusting the normals in whatever 3D modeling program you use; if it's SketchUp, just select the polygons you want to make look smoother, right click them, and select 'smooth faces,' then just increase the slider for the crease angle until they all look more natural. Just something I thought would make an awesome map look even better; keep up the excellent work.

  12. Shame to see such a talented programmer take their leave, but I definitely understand where you're coming from, and, as Spire said, I hope you find your happy medium, applying your programming skills in a way that really fulfills you.
