If I'm going to be 100% honest here, I never really wanted to see the alpha market restored in the exact state it was originally made since it clashed badly with later development periods and was overall a horribly empty design with subpar texturing. I don't believe it was ever intended to be used as anything other than a testing area. I think that it's a good thing that we've since changed direction; there really isn't a lot if anything from the old project that is worth stealing. Hell, Xu_Yuan made better hacks of OOT, and this was before we could even do that much with the terrain already ingame.

Good mask designs can be very tricky, and I think you've done a fantastic job with yours :3 You have a good sense of where light and dark falls, too. Your shading is quite well done

I think what you're talking about here is stylistic consistency rather than overall graphics. Both are quite important though, since they do a great deal for setting the tone of a game. Where you are able, it is best to match the graphical style to the mood you are setting in the game. This has become easier with the advancement of gaming technology, however older games used other elements to set the tone, such as the style of play and other nonvisual devices. I think one thing that people forget is that it's best to make a game using every aspect to its fullest potential. That's when you get truly outstanding titles. Games where gameplay or graphics are heavily focused on to the detriment of the other can often feel hollow and incomplete. One thing I really liked about Wind Waker and Twilight Princess was that the art direction reflected the tone of the story really nicely, and actually subtly evolved through the progression of the title. It's not something you see a lot in games these days.

Your english is actually very good, so I wouldn't be too worried about that Welcome to the GCN :3

You're getting the error because the path in the xml file is wrong. It's looking for the collision file in the wrong folder. You have two options. Either move the contents of the 'demo' folder into the same directory as the .exe, or edit the .xml file and include /demo/ in the filepath.

SharpOcarina - Zelda OoT Scene Development System

If you pop the design doc on Google Docs, I'll give you a hand with the planning. I'm sure there are a few areas my own knowledge can help with. -

One thing that has constantly frustrated me is the need to make extra textures for fades to black or white. Is there any chance you'll add support for vertex colour editing? Or perhaps add support for .x files in the near future so that vertex colours can be set beforehand in 3dsMax, Maya or Blender? -
I find it kind of tragic how little the public reaction to this sort of thing actually affects lawmaking. Considering we're dealing with a supposedly representative voice.

There's a fairly good chance that the texture used may be white and is tinted blue by its blendmode, so do be prepared for that possibility.

There really aren't 'correct proportions'. Just map it so it looks good. If you look at the 'official' maps, Nintendo's modellers seriously badly map some textures. So just make it look good.

This. Also, this.

Not bad You have some considerable skill

Well now, after an extended period of inactivity, I've been polishing up on my C++ and have made a start on the systems that run behind the scenes in the game. Started setting up all the arrays that will hold save data once it's loaded into memory, as well as planning out the level setup format that will display the actual content. Might have a working demo before the middle of the year if I have enough time to work on this alongside everything else with any consistency XD

Consoles are covered, so what's your first computer?
Arcaith replied to xdaniel's topic in Randomness
Macintosh Plus. Bought it from my school when they replaced a bunch of computers with new ones. Helped make duplicates of the software needed to run the older Apple IIEs, so I got a SCSI hard drive for doing that. On said hard drive was a program called Go-Go Clock. Displayed an analogue clock, and whenever the second hand reached 12, it played a short greyscale animation of a semi-nude Go-Go dancer. Fun times. -
The first console I actually owned (read: my parents caved in after I was diagnosed with type-1 diabetes and needed to distract me) was a first generation PAL N64. My friends all had NES and SNESes, so N64 was the logical choice. The first games I got were BK and OOT.

Oh hey, guess what? They've done over Google+ too now. Everything's clustered around the lefthand side of my screen. Do they at least have a setting for those of us with widescreen monitors? Because I sure can't find it.

Thoughts on this quote from TCRF; it's possible that originally instead of the Phantom Guide, the Haunted Wasteland used fake and real flags to guide you after a certain point. -
So I'm sort of back, though I'm still very busy. Things will be made in 3DSMax, and hopefully I'll have time to show off some other stuff I've been working on in between everything else.

I'm honestly very 'meh' on Pokemon these days. The games just aren't as compelling anymore, and most of the changes between versions feel largely superficial. I think they need to take the series in a new direction.

Hmm...the Raspberry Pi looks very interesting, I may have to check this out :3
