Is there a tutorial out there on how to make your own maps and import them?

Question

All I know is that you have to use Sketchup to make the model then I believe you export the model as a .obj. Also I never did understand how to add textures, both that are already in the game and if its possible your own textures. So bottom line is, is there any tutorial out there (preferably a video one) making a basic area then exporting it, converting it and then injecting it into the ROM?

Do the names of the textures have to be something specific? Can I just use textures that were from a texture pack?

You can use anything you want to. As long is it's the correct resolution, which you can find in the ReadMe.

You can't use anything from a Hi-Res texture pack until you have the map imported, then you can create a Hi-Res pack for that map specifically.

I have to say, I'm glad someone else asked that question. I've been meaning to for a while and now I know, haha.

EDIT: BTW, do you need Sketchup Pro to use maps, or can you just use the free version? Alternatively, is there anything the Pro version offers which can help you make maps better or easier?

Not at all. Pro is just SketchUp's way of making people pay for their Exporting Plugins. The Free version would work just fine. :)

I like TIG's Exporter with the modification I listed in this topic:

http://core.the-gcn....-tips-and-help/

I would distribute TIG's Exporter with the line change already made, but I'm pretty sure that would go against the author's wishes.

By all means, try making some stuff. I need lots of help on the ZB2 project if you've nothing else to do. :)

I hope that's enough, as I've never been any good at making tutorials. :)

How did you make the ground raise like you did? I've been trying for the past 20 minutes figuring out how to do it and gotten nowhere. You seemed to be using keyboard shortcuts or something so I couldn't even follow it in the tutorial. Sketchup tutorials on Youtube are fucking useless, NOBODY covers how to do this very basic thing, which is completely ridiculous. The best I can do is select each individual polygon and move that up and down, I can't seem to select a bunch of polygons and move that up and down like you do.

EDIT: Okay figured out how to move them like you do in the tutorial... is there a way of making them move along just one specific axis at a time? I'm finding it very hard to control which axis they move along, and having to "trial and error" when moving vertices along and praying I've moved it across the right axis... very annoying when I'm trying to make indents and all I'm doing is just moving the vertex to the right or something instead.

EDIT: (removing all rants) this sums up my current situation quite nicely

EDIT: For the next 5 minutes, this is the greatest thread in my life right now:
