Silver was already awake, staring ahead blankly. When he glanced to the side and noticed Ethan had woken up, he stiffened, before glancing away, teeth clenched.

"You're awake..." he mumbled. "I just..."

Standing up, Silver had his bag slung over his shoulder. Glancing down at Snappy, he gave a slight smile as the Pokemon nodded, both trainer and Pokemon walking to the door. As the red-haired teen reached it, he stopped, glancing down at the ground.

"Sorry..." he said softly. "For last night... I was out of line."

With those words, Silver rushed out, the door closing behind him.

Silver had run right out of Ecruteak City, making it halfway to the next town, Olivine, by the time he stopped to catch his breath.

"What the hell's wrong with me?" he muttered to himself. "Why did I freeze up like that? Even more so... the apology... it just... came out of nowhere."

Snappy broke the teen out of his questioning, the red-haired boy shaking his head as if to erase thoughts from his mind.

"I know..." he mumbled. "We'll work harder to beat him, at any cost. But until then, I'm going to make you work double as hard... punishment for biting me like that."

The Croconaw nodded in understanding, before giving a toothy grin.

Silver decided that he'd return to Ecruteak City, to check out the Burned Tower. On his way, he stopped to catch a Magnemite, training his Pokemon a bit on the way back. Finally having returned, he made a beeline for the tower, entering to find it was eerie.

The perfect place for honing one's power...

-Sometime later...-

"It's official; I hate Ghosts." Ethan deadpanned as they left the gym. Cynder, who had evolved into Typhlosion, snorted, shaking his head. "Well, once we get everyone healed, we still have half the day, should we check out the Burned Tower?" The raven haired trainer suggested, smiling as Cynder nodded vigorously before they headed off to the center.

Silver's training regime was rigorous. True to his word, he was training Snappy even harder than his other Pokemon, although secretly, there was an ulterior motive behind it. As the training program ended, Silver glanced at his Pokemon in satisfaction. They all looked incredibly stronger.

Now, I should be able to defeat him.

Stepping out of the Center, Ethan smiled, glancing around. "Alright let's go!" Cynder growled in agreement before the two headed to the Burned Tower.

The moment they got in there, Ethan looked around warily. "It's amazing they let people in here...it seems so unstable..." Cynder looked around, on guard. "But at the same time, it's pretty cool, don't you think, Cynder?" Ethan looked at his starter, confused at the guarded expression on his face, "What's the matter?" Cynder looked at him before lightly blowing a small cloud of smoke as if to say 'It's nothing'.

Silver motioned for his Gastly to come closer, whispering something to the ghost Pokemon. Understanding, the Gastly gave a smirk, before floating off towards Ethan.

"Gaaaaastly..." it purred to catch Ethan's attention. "Gastly..."

He began moving away slowly, stopping every few seconds to look back and ensure Ethan was following.

Silver's smirk faded, the red-haired teen showing a blank expression on his face.

Now I can see if my training is paying off.

When Gastly had finally led Ethan over to him, Silver gave a silent nod, before staring right at the other trainer.

"So I see you're getting better and better..." he mumbled. "I too, have been training fiercely. I want to prove now, that I am capable of taking you down."

The nostalgic smile returned briefly, Silver taking mental note of the graceful speed of the fire-dog Pokemon. Mind returning to the present, he watched as his opponent's Pokemon managed to sink its fangs into Magnemite's metallic frame.

Magnemite better show it can hold its own...

The magnet Pokemon flinched slightly from the attack, but it quickly recovered, launching another Thunder Bolt... without being told.

Heh... I guess it wants to win at any cost.

Closing his eyes, Silver knew it was over. Magnemite was totally unprepared for the attack, the embers making its metallic frame super-hot. Only moments later, it had fainted, Silver holding out the Monster Ball to recall the magnet Pokemon.

"Gastly..." he mumbled. "I choose you."

The ghost Pokemon gave a smirk as he moved into view.
