DeathBasket
Anybody here interested in speedrunning games? I know I am. Anyway, would be cool to know what games you're into and what/any times you have for them. Maybe we could even organise a race at some point if a few people like playing the same games. I've only really just started learning, don't really practise due to not having much time and I'm not great but I'll post what I have anyway: Ocarina of Time any%: 33:59 I need to get the Japanese version if I really want to compete but that would require hacking my Wii, which I'm not really wanting to do since I barely ever use or have it with me, and I don't want to play on emulator either (yes VC is an emulator but it works better than any I've tried on a computer). That said, I can probably get this down to 25-26 minutes if I practise enough, but I'll always lose time at the moment with text and saving/resetting since I'm playing on a Gamecube. Perfect Dark (agent, XBLA version): 47:49 Pretty sure the N64 version of this game is faster since the fast movement is way easier and there is at least one trick that only works on the PAL version (which I have on N64, XBLA is based off NTSC version) but I really struggle with those controls and my N64 controllers being in poor condition since they are all 10+ years old. I'm probably going to learn Majora's Mask at some point because I know a lot of the glitches are pretty easy compared to OoT and it's probably my favourite game. I'm also interested in learning Skyward Sword or one or both Gamecube Zelda games but Twilight Princess seems to be near-impossible to get a copy of now. Again, I don't really get a lot of time for this which is why my times are pretty bad; my time for OoT is from only my second finished run of it and it had multiple fails like dying to Gohma and losing my shield in the tower collapse, my time for Perfect Dark isn't good because I am not good with a lot of the tricks in the game and I always seem to get the president killed in one of the levels. giadrosich
Twilight Princess for me, I worked on a 100% single-segment speedrun until I got a job and didn't have 7+ hours to work on it. I've also done an any% which is way more fun to learn because of the funky glitches in it. For sure get the GC version though, it has better glitches. I own the Japanese version of OOT on console, it's pretty easy to find on Ebay, and just take the dust covers off the N64 and it'll work just fine. SS tricks are just...not very fun to watch. It's mostly BIT stuff and weird warp stuff that goes on. I've watched a speedrun of it and TP is more fun to watch. But I know what's going on in TP, so...yeah. Mallos31
Got 4 hours 49 minutes on Ocarina of Time. Never even got close to that again. Mario 64 I've got down to a little over 3 hours (On good days) And I've done a Kingdom Hearts 2 run at 12 hours. Which is slow. But I'm working on it. I'm working on a pokemon blue run too, not sure what my time was, though it wasn't very long.
zaneebaslave
I think the only game I have ever speed ran was Donkey Kong Country 1. In comparison to other people who speed run the game, my record is probably not all that good. But I DID beat the game in less than an hour only losing about two lives. All my friends who were watching it were very impressed, because I was renown for being absolutely terrible at video games at the time, and yet I blew them away with my mad skills at Donkey Kong! As for Zelda games, I dunno if I would ever want to speed run them. I mean, platformers are okay and even fun to speed run, but Zelda is like a really fancy chocolate to me. I only get to have a fancy chocolate once or twice a year, and when I do, I savor the shit outta that fancy chocolate! The same with Zelda. If I wanna play a Zelda game, I'll make a big deal out it and savor every second. I might even buy a fancy chocolate for the occassion!

But after playing TP 20+ times (for me anyway), you might want to run it a bit differently. I mean, you don't pick up the new game and then immediately speedrun it, you got to play it normally first to know the correct route. Now, with Zelda I do glitch hunting pretty early on, but that doesn't mean I don't enjoy it. Zelda is seriously really fun to run because of the superb coding weirdness that goes into it. TP in general is a coding nightmare when it comes to cutscenes and between link and wolf link, twilight, non-twilight. The game gets so effed up, it's amazing. Unfortunately I can't play a J cart so easily because I have a PAL N64...I'm probably going to get a used Wii that I can hack since my parents still have mine and if I hacked it and they were using it they'd probably manage to brick it somehow. Both SS and TP look interesting to me but I'd probably be more interested in TP since SS is still twice as long and you can probably bet there's a load more stuff yet to be found in it. Still, the atmosphere in SS makes it look like a pretty relaxing game to run and I like the way you have to constantly pay attention to your stamina. I can understand why people wouldn't want to run OoT now because of wrong warps being everywhere in basically every category and failing those loses you a load of time but there's still a lot of fun to be had with it with bingo, for example. The game is so broken now that there's just so many possibilities for it.
