OOT Rebirth Hack

I'm going to make a full zelda hack, I've already started messing around with a hex editor, and watched some tutorial videos.

A few people have offered to help me when I will most likely be having trouble figuring something out.

It will not have a new story, instead it will have the story retold differently with new text, and I will be using a good deal of information from the Hyrule Historia to do this. Even if the information never really confirms if it is true, or not. If it is hinting or saying that it might be that is good enough for me.

I will be replacing all (if not most) of the music in the game with music from other Zelda games. This includes music that plays when Link dies, when an enemy approaches, the file select screen, and ect..

I will also be editing the dungeons to make them as hard as I can. My main complaint about most Zelda games is that they are too easy.

You can expect new sword attacks, and great changes in enemy's and bosses as well.

It will be a while before this hack is released, so don't be expecting this to be done for a while. The only help I will be needing is help finding out how to do something if I'm having trouble figuring it out. I shouldn't have too much trouble though. If I do, then I will then see about starting up a team.

I've done  some work to the lost woods added fog to some areas, and I've boosted up Gohma a bit. Not as much as I wanted to, but some of her speed values couldn't even be notched up by two, or she would go Nascar fast. The only Speed Values I could increase at all was the one she uses when climbing up a pillar, and when walking towards link. I was only able to increase the walking speed one value higher. I gave her some super health, along with her babies, so she will be a little more fun.

I may come back and edit her color, make her eye bigger, and ect.. if I find out which bytes to edit at her object offset. I'm not done with the Lost Woods just yet either, I still have plenty of ideas for it, and Oh yeah the Gohma babies are a little faster too :)

I find this particularly interesting because coupled together, the music and text work to create a very distinct air. The world can look the same, but with these two components changed, you've altered two entire methods of experiencing the game. But not only are you simply changing these, you're doing so with respect to the rest of the series, rewriting Ocarina of Time to fit in an updated chronology ca. 2013. I'm really curious to see where this goes and look forward to playing it in the future.

Glad to hear. I'm really going to give this story my all, I'm Not going to force anything into it. Everything will be re-worded, I won't leave a single word where it was before.

Wow, did you convert these yourselves or did you write them from scratch? These sound pretty good (some of the instruments are missing here and there) but that you loaded it up on what seemed an actual cartridge is even more impressive.

Thanks! I got a lot of help from DeathBasket, and I used his InstEd program to do it. I didn't write the songs from scratch. I downloaded midi files of those songs, gave them different Instrument sets, and changed the Instrument set assigned to the area. The reason some of the songs are missing instruments is because some of the songs like the sanctuary song from A Link to the Past ended up getting converted a few channels short (the txt document I can assign the instruments too) or they just didn't end up having as many as they sounded like they had.

I could have just looked for a different midi and made it better, but I was pretty satisfied the way they came out.

That is correct, I was playing it on the Everdrive 64 V2.

I am testing Rebirth on both real N64 hardware, and emulator.

I've got some cool things in mind for the Lost Woods, and there will be at least one secret boss. Though I won't be releasing any specifics on those things.

I think it's time for a capture card :).

I may end up getting one sooner or later. If not then I'll just get a mic for my PC and record everything off emulator.

it seems interesting enough, but the Hyrule Historia is a poor source of data to rewrite the storyline, the music hacks are interesting, but I'd reccomend picking one Zelda game to replicate the sound track from, Windwaker, ALTTP, and Zelda II soundtracks do not fit and flow together. Perhaps you should record the video with a screen recorder and a PC emulator though, background noise and some sort of painful ringing make it a tad difficult to hear the actual music, and filming a TV screen, the image will always come out somewhat distorted, sorry if I seem like a downer, I'm just hoping to make constructive criticism, I can't wait to see what kind of level designs you come up with, I bet they'll be great ^_^

If I did it that way the soundtrack would come out not as good, and sort of boring. Trust me I'm going to make sure the music flows together well enough. Maybe you will agree after more videos are released. If not then I'm sorry. As for the story I am not going to add everything from Hyrule Historia, only things in it that involve OOT, and even then I am not going to add that much new information. Nothing will be forced into it. Little things will be added here, or there... most of the story is just going to be re-worded and told differently.

I appriciate your critism, though I stand firm on the decisions I've made already.

Only so little has been done, please give it more time to see how you will like it.

If I had to guess it's likely that this mod may take the path of the Downfall Timeline where Link dies trying to defeat Ganondorf, hence why Heavy1390 wants to use the Hyrule Historia telling as a base to possibly flow better into ALttP.

Well that can't be right, that Link is in the graveyard in my game. XD j/k

And heavy, you can't please everyone--BELIEVE me.

This is a great idea I would definitely like to incorrporate into the game.

With that said I lack the knowledge to even do it because this would require editing cutscenes

Haha yeah this game is really for me. I do hope that everyone likes it, but if people don't like something I really like, and don't intend on changing then oh well.

There's a lot of cutscene stuff being done right now, but I agree, we need a easy tool for that. I don't get the stuff that's being talked about in the cutscene thread at all.

Yeah and I'd hate to have to ask someone to help me with a bunch of stuff other than some advice here or there. I'd like to stay fully in charge of my project and learn how to do everything. Everyday I'm learning to use a new tool. I can certainly see why OOT hacks, and other projects get dropped all the time. Hex editor alone is kind of disheartening.

I won't quit the project. No matter how many headaches I get from it lol. It's all worth it when you see what you've done in the game

I got some exciting cool stuff to show off for Project Rebirth! I will try to show some of it tonight, but I will most likely not be since I am currently still making music for sequences. If anyone wants any music from other zelda games to be featured then please give me a link to a fan made midi, or one you cannot tell if it is fan made or not.

Be expecting to see what changes I have done to the Lost Woods, Queen Gohma, and some new songs set to certain sequences!

If you would like to contribute to the project these are the Midi's I already have. Some I will not use, some I will. I haven't decided which ones I won't use for sure, but I know which ones I definitely will be using. There are still so many midi's I would like to work with yet the ones I'm having most trouble finding are for Twilight Princess, and Skyward Sword.

Ballad of the goddess

A Link to the Past - the song that plays when the guards see you.

Outset island - Probably won't use it.

the shop song from LttP

Confrontation at the Mayor's office - I'll be using this for sneaking around the guards in the courtyard

Death Mountain from LttP.... maybe it's the Dark World Death mountain song I can't remember. I'll go ahead and tell you all I might just be using this for the Fire Temple ;)

Fairy fountain (it will be different than what is in the game already)

Link to the past boss theme

The victory/Crystal song in LttP

Song of healing

Overworld temple song in Lttp

LttP Castle song (Wind Wakers version used inside Hyrule castle)

Trendy game song from Link's Awakening

Temple song from Zelda 2 Adventure of Link.

Agnihms boss theme (or however you spell his name)

FI's Lament

Ghirahims theme - again I might not use this... I mean I like the song, but where would this even be a good spot to use the music?

Knight Acedemy - another song I really like, but unless I get some votes on where to use or if I even should, then I won't.

Twilight Princess - Sadness song that plays in one of the houses, or when link is thinking about llia. I would be able to give a better discription if I played it any sooner than three, or four years ago.

Edited:

I forgot to mention the people who have helped me so far. Just want to give credit and say thanks to Giadrsich, Airikita, DeathBasket, and Jason777

I wouldn't have been able to do half the stuff I can now if they didn't help me out.

Looking good so far. The reason why're you're having trouble giving the Ghoma reasonable speeds is because they are float values :P

Eventually, I'll teach you how to modify speed values correctly and the colors of her model.
