GameStop Argument

You don't have to necessarily be rich to buy mainly new games, but you would never be able to buy as many. I make sure when I buy games online that I read what condition it is. All of my stuff might as well be new. Even my Nes and my Snes look new and all of the games for them. I got manuals boxes and everything. I know the right website to go to get things though. Zelda OoT collectors edition with box and manual, no creases in the box, or worn out edges. 80$ value at the least here in the states, and I got it for 30$ it even came with a nice little protector case for the box.

Gamestop can die for all I care, 40 cents for a 15$ or 20$ game.. pshh whatever, 40$ used Smash bros Brawl. I might as well buy that new if I shop their.

Get stuff online, sell it online. That's my advice. Get it used, just make sure to read the description. Like Griadosich I only buy Zelda games new, and that's because I wouldn't want to wait to play the latest installment in the series. Player's choice is fine, but if you collect then you want the original version.. unless it's one of the re-releases that have new features and extra stuff. I made a bad decision getting the original version of Devil May Cry 3 instead of the players choice which has extra stuff.. -_-

The quality of their products, or their customer service is not what I was talking about, it's their prices.

Give me a Gamestop price for any game and I guarantee you I can find one online cheaper. Of course you would have to mention if it came with case, manual and ect. That way I would look for something that came with the same things, or more.

I don't really care if I can find it cheaper online. They still sell games for cheap, and even if it is a little more, I enjoy the convenience of getting my games right away for what is still a good price.

40$ or more for a 5 year old used Wii game is not a good price (Smash bros. Brawl). The convience is nice for sure though.. I will give credit where credit is due and say their pre-order specials are the bomb because you get stuff you couldn't anywhere else, but that's the only positive stuff I have to say. I think their used Gamecube controllers were like 15$, or 20$. Which is crazy because I can get a Gamecube for 30$ with a controller. I haven't been their in about 5 months, but I needed a gamecube memory card is why I went. If you could find other smaller game store corportaions around town I would use those. We had one around here that looked at prices online to figure what they would set theirs

I don't believe it costs that much at my GameStop, so your argument doesn't apply to me at all. Also, why do you care so much where I get my games? Like, really? Why?

My bad about before Mellow.

I really don't care. You're getting really defensive. I didn't want it to be an "Argument" I would have rather it have been a civil debate. If you're going to get mad then I won't reply any further to you

EDIT: I was here. Plus, I merged your posts. <3 ~ To Coool

I agree with heavy. I used to sell my games (ps2, GC, etc when they were still the popular systems in use) and they would give me 5 - 10% of what they charge you for the used game. Once I found out about amazon, so long GameStop. To be fair though, I was able to get some hard to find games there (for a mark up of course).

I don't sell my games(I'm a collector), so it doesn't matter to me what they will give for anything.

Also, yes, I am a collector. That means, I still order games online; mostly retro games, as it's the only place I am able to get them.

GameStop has been my primary source for PS2 games, but on June 1st, they will no longer sell them, so boo.

GameStop will always be where I get my modern games(sometimes I even order these online, but not always), and the internet will always be for retro/classic.

I own all the retro systems and love playing those games. I have since moved to pure emulation on my dedicated emulation PC. I play everything really and love the shaders, upscaling, cheating and everything that comes with it. Plus I dont have to clutter up my entertainment center with 12 consoles...lol

Gamestop is definitely more retail now, and I prefer Microplay for some good vintage games, but their prices aren't any better where I live. Now, the PS2 games from gamestop were a better deal than Microplay... Microplay was charging $10 for games I got for $1 to $5 at Gamestop. There is a new store called Dimensions, and I will be checking their store when I have enough money; they told me they can order in a game if it's not on the shelves, and I plan to see if they can get me Ocarina of Time Master Quest if it's not available at other locations.

Their pricing is fair too. But, like I said, sometimes Gamestop can be better for SOME things. I really dislike how they stopped selling vintage games.

I remember a LONG time ago when they used to sell N64 games. I was digging in this giant basket of used games (they were going to stop selling them, so they were selling them for dirt cheap). I ended up finding a few games that werent easy to find before the Aamzon era. Games like Goldeneye 007, MM gold  cartidge collectors edition, and OoT Gold 1.0 cartridge (or at least i think it was 1.0).

The customer service is great, and it's nice being able to get previous-gen games, but they have no idea how to price their products. I shit you not, one time I went to walmart to check the price on a wii, then went to GameStop directly after and a used wii was more expensive then a new one from walmart.

  • 2 weeks later...

I have more gripes with Gamestop when it comes to selling used games that aren't in the original casing for the same price as another used game with the original casing and everything. (Obviously, you buy the latter.) It just doesn't make sense. You'd think the game would be worth less since it's not the original case, but noooo, GameStop has to be greedy.
