In some fantastic gaming news, Microsoft has canceled their plans for DRM on the XBox One.

From http://www.giantbomb.com/articles/microsoft-to-pull-complete-reversal-on-xbox-one-dr/1100-4673/

What does this mean?

  • No more always online requirement
  • The console no longer has to check in every 24 hours
  • All game discs will work on Xbox One as they do on Xbox 360
  • An Internet connection is only required when initially setting up the console
  • All downloaded games will function the same when online or offline
  • No additional restrictions on trading games or loaning discs
  • Region locks have been dropped

This is why it's important to let your voice be heard as a consumer. Microsoft was forced to reconsider their plans after public outcry against DRM, and abysmal preorder figures. Remember, companies are out to make a profit and to do that they need you. The strongest message you can send is "I will not buy your product". Either they listen or go out of business.
