Shadow Fire
It is a sad day for Nintendo. Hiroshi Yamauchi, who revolutionised the gaming industry, has passed away after suffering complications with pneumonia. He was 85 years of age. While a lot of what he did could be considered controversial, he did set the tone for the video gaming industry, and let us not forget that it was he who made the decision to hire our beloved Shigeru Miyamoto, in spite of the latter's inexperience with video games in general. A lot of information can be found floating all around the interwebs, so I'll refrain from posting repeat information, but I do ask... how do you feel at this news? Is there anything you may wish to comment on the topic?

Airikita
Nintendo: "What shall become of us???" I think it's a grim foreshadowing on troubling problems ahead.... I am concerned about the prospects of consoles and games for Nintendo in the future.

xdaniel
I'm concerned about Nintendo too, but not because of Yamauchi's passing... Regardless, RIP Hiroshi Yamauchi, the "Iron Fist in the Velvet Glove" as USgamer put it, which I think describes him and his leadership style very well. zaneebaslave
Isn't that what Nintendo used to make before video games? I think I heard that somewhere.

Airikita
... How the hell did I get vibrating beds out of this? ..........Weird thing is you might be.... right?.... "Founded on September 23, 1889[2] by Fusajiro Yamauchi, it originally produced handmade hanafuda cards.[7] By 1963, the company had tried several small niche businesses, such as cab services and love hotels.[8]" Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nintendo Maybe there were vibrating beds in the love hotels? EDIT: Some more sources: http://kotaku.com/5784314/the-nintendo-theyve-tried-to-forget-gambling-gangsters-and-love-hotels http://classic-video-games.yoexpert.com/classic-video-games-history/did-nintendo-run-love-hotels-in-japan-31273.html "They also invented a product called the "Ultra Hand", which was essentially a reaching device that allowed people to reach objects that they normally wouldn't be able to get. It's been said that the "Ultra Hand" is what saved Nintendo from bankruptcy, and if it if wasn't for this strange invention they would have never gotten into the video game industry." Hmmm.... Librarian
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hiroshi_Yamauchi "Some of the new areas he ventured into included a taxi company called Daiya, a love hotel with rooms rented by the hour, and individually portioned instant rice. All of these ventures eventually failed and brought the company into the brink of bankruptcy. However, one day, Yamauchi spotted a factory engineer named Gunpei Yokoi..." C'mon really, you're on a gaming website that primarily focuses on Nintendo games. Yet you're unaware about the majority of Their history, really. Although I can't say I blame you, it was only recently that I learned of Nintendo's surprisingly long non gaming related yet gaming related history. It literately blew my mind, really, if you find part of a temporal lobe laying around, please mail it back to me, there will be cake.

I mean, it doesn't shock/surprise me to know this, but it was something I have been unaware of. As a child, I was more indulged into Zelda to wonder if Nintendo was something else before... I mean, I thought Nintendo was a new company just for gaming, I didn't know the name was used for OTHER things. To me it's an oddity to keep the same company name, but perhaps it's somewhat a good thing. The "love hotel" is interesting if you read into its history.
Conker
Nintendo can make a million zillion dollars if they make another love hotel where you can do the naughty with women dressed as Nintendo heroines.
