Zeth Ryder
The portable Nintendo DS™ Lite system is getting a new suggested retail price. Effective June 5, the system will be available at a suggested retail price of just $99.99 in the United States. The Nintendo DS family has become the best-selling video game system in history. More than 48.9 million systems in the Nintendo DS family have sold in the United States alone. Also in June, six Mario™ games for Nintendo DS will receive new red packaging, making it easier than ever for consumers to identify these hit titles in stores. "From the moment it launched, Nintendo DS Lite hit a sweet spot for consumers in terms of value, experience and fun," said Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime. "This new price point will introduce Nintendo DS Lite to even more consumers, and the new red packaging will make it easy for them to find their favorite Mario titles." The six Mario games that will begin sporting the new Mario-red packaging in June are New Super Mario Bros.™, Mario Kart™ DS, Super Mario 64™ DS, Mario & Luigi™: Bowser's Inside Story, Mario vs. Donkey Kong™: Mini-Land Mayhem! and Mario Party™ DS. These games represent some of the best-selling fan-favorite Nintendo DS games of all time, and demonstrate the well-known "evergreen" sales trend of Nintendo games. Ever since the launch of the Nintendo 3DS™ system, users around the U.S. increasingly have been seeking each other out to plan in-person meetups and exchange fun content via the system's built-in StreetPass™ feature. To make it even easier for fans to connect and come together, Nintendo of America has created a Meetup Everywhere community that people can use to organize their own local StreetPass-themed meetups and social gatherings*. To mark the launch of this community, Nintendo 3DS users everywhere are encouraged to hold StreetPass meetups on Saturday, June 25, which has been designated Nintendo 3DS StreetPass Day. Meetup Everywhere is a simple-to-use online platform that enables an organization's fans or followers to coordinate local, real-life meetups based on shared interests. Nintendo 3DS users who are interested in sharing content with others via StreetPass are invited to visit http://www.meetup.com/nintendo3ds to find events in their area or to plan their own StreetPass meetups. Users are also encouraged to use the “#streetpass†hashtag within social media to promote Nintendo 3DS StreetPass events throughout the year and attract even more participants. While gathered together in the same location, anyone can use the Nintendo 3DS system's built-in StreetPass feature to share content such as Mii™ characters, game stats and custom characters. Users can control which kinds of information they exchange, and they can trade data from multiple games such as nintendogs™ + cats or Super Street Fighter® IV 3D Edition at the same time. Secant
I find it really incredible how the 3DS so easily addresses the two biggest parental concerns about video games: exercise and social interaction. With these sorts of events going on as well as the built-in pedometer and game coin incentives, I can't fathom why anyone would find the 3DS an "unhealthy" console--the 3D effect is adjustable, too, so that can't possibly play into the argument against it. Malqua
My input: List of utmost Nintendo importance Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance Making a Mario DS Collection, combining all six listed games for the low low price of $100 or something. Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance I can't stress 1 and 3 enough.
xdaniel
So, unless Europe gets a price cut as well, getting a new American DS Lite will be cheaper than getting a used domestic DS Lite at GameStop, with just under 70€ versus 89€. And even when factoring in eventual customs fees, you'd probably still end up with a few saved Euros, and of course a new system instead of a loose, used one. Secant
True, but isn't the DS Lite region locked, making it virtually useless to foreign countries? Or maybe I'm just thinking of the non-handheld consoles...
xdaniel
The Lite is region free, starting with the DSi Nintendo went partially region locked - most DSi-enhanced software is locked, DS software is region free -, and of course we all know the sad story that is the 3DS, in this regard anyway... Secant
Such a shame, I don't see the point of region locking. Still, good to know that Europe and other continents will be able to take advantage of a price cut in North America, anyway.
Zeth Ryder
I need to get a new DS as well, cause well... Ouendan may or may not have been the cause of my touch screen having circular groves in its touch screen from extensive play of it. <.>;
