Plot

Ocarina of Time takes place before the first four games, but rather happens after the soon to be released Skyward Sword.

The Great Deku Tree has summoned you, and has sent Navi for you, where you are then awakened in the midst of a horrible nightmare where the Antagonist, Ganondorf, is chasing after Princess Zelda and Impa on horseback. Navi then informs Link that the Great Deku Tree, Guardian of the Kokiri Forest has summoned him. Once Link makes his way to him, he tells you of a curse that has befallen him. Link must then eradicate this curse, which he succeeds at, but ultimately the Great Deku Tree whithers to his death. This is when Link embarks on his journey, to save Hyrule, which will challenge him on many levels. Fights with a giant Dodongo, all the way to an evil and dark version of yourself! There are dungeons aplenty to explore, and items to be found!

Review

Visuals: The first detail I will go over, are the game's graphics. They are great, considering what year the game came out, and how limiting the N64 hardware is.

But there are plenty of details I think would have improved the game visually, for example, would be a strap around Link's torso that holds his equipment(a la Majora's Mask).

In many cases, I feel the colors could use more vibrancy, as the game looks a little washed out at times(although this may differ from gamer to gamer). I also hate how red blood, and the Pakistani flag symbol on the mirror shield were removed from the game. I know it's a symbol on a flag, but it looked great on the shield.

Story: The story in this game, while may be considered cliché, is something I actually enjoy, and am sure many fans enjoy as well. The story keeps you tied to the game, to see what will happen next(if you're a first-time player, but who is anymore?) in the game. While sometimes the dialog did seem like it could use some rewriting in certain scenes, it is forgivable.

Gameplay: The gameplay is what is the most important, and this game does it damn fine. Although it is not as featured as current Zelda games, it still holds its own with creative puzzles, challenging dungeons, inventive boss-battles, and great combat. And let us not forget the minigames, the wondrous minigames! Although it's all great, it does tend to get a bit repetitive after a while, which is sad.

Music: The music in the game is astonishing, 100%. This game houses some of the most memorable music ever heard in a game for me, and no doubt many others. I really have no complaints here, except for the fact that the Islamic Fire Temple music was removed in later versions of the game, which sets the mood way more than what is now there.

Overall

To wrap things up, the game is amazing, and one of the best games of all time. Although, the issues I have pointed out, knock it down to 9/10, where it could have been an easy 10.

They may be small nitpicks, but for me make a difference enough to deduct from the rating just a tad bit. Overall though, if you can find this game in a fleamarket or any store offline or online, get it. Specifically the gold cartridge if you have the extra cash to spare. You will not regret it.
