Zidane, Vivi and Dagger had boarded, and sometime later, Zidane had spoken to Steiner, who informed him he would be executed. Indifferent, Zidane merely headed towards the bridge. As he did, Steiner seemed to ponder to himself.

"At last!" he said. "Queen Brahne is sure to be pleased. However...the princess would have been left behind without the thief's aid. I shall petition for a life sentence on his behalf. Yes, that would be the honorable thing! But that was because the crew wouldn't listen! I must run a background check on them. Ah, yes. It is my duty as a knight!"

Suddenly, the ship began to shake. Zidane was altering course. Meanwhile, another Black Waltz noticed the course change and glared after the ship, before heading off towards it.

Vivi had lost his balance, as he fell onto the ground, his back have ended up against the window, as he looked down, only to get a really good eyeview of the ground he couldn't see through the mist, as he gasped out in fear.

Dagger went over, and held him up, suggesting they go up to the deck so he wouldn't see the ground so easily.

Landing on the deck, the larger mage narrowed its eyes at Vivi.

"So, No. 2 was defeated by a small child!" it growled. "You are no match against my power! Kwahahaha! Princess, stay there while I eliminate this child!"

Suddenly, the other Black Mages walked in front of Vivi, staring defiantly, yet silently at the Black Waltz.

"Are you protecting him?" it demanded, an amused tone to its voice. "...Nonsense. You are no different from mindless dolls! What can you do?"

It happened too quickly. Black Waltz #3 glared daggers at the other mages.

"Get out of my way!" it hissed. "Do you dare to fight a Black Waltz? I said, get out of my way!"

The Black Waltz began firing lightning magic at the mages, killing them one by one, the mages making no sound as their lifeless bodies flew from the airship. Zidane and Steiner looked on in horror.

"No..." Steiner gasped. "Wh-What cruelty!"

Zidane gave a determined look, calling out after Vivi and Steiner.

"Hey, you guys!" he called, before turning to Dagger. "Dagger! We'll take care of the Black Waltz. You steer the ship. Things are gonna get even more dangerous from here on. It's not too late to turn back. You can go back to the castle or cross South Gate into Lindblum. It's your choice!"

Dagger listened to him, giving a soft nod, before she picked herself up.

"Okay."

She watched as Zidane ran towards the front of the ship, yelling he would be fine when she told him to be careful.

Vivi was shaking a bit as he was in front of the taller mage, a anger mixed with sadness expression in his eyes.

"How could you do such a horrible thing?! Weren't they your friends?!"

Black Waltz #3 seemed amused.

"You fool..." it laughed. "Do I look like some lowly black mage soldier?"

Steiner scowled, holding his sword out.

"Even if they weren't your allies..." he growled out. "What you did was reprehensible!"

The enemy mage laughed again, a cruel laugh.

"Kwahahaha!" it cackled. "Worry not about them: many more are being produced even now!"

Coming to a stop next to Vivi, the blond glared at the taller mage.

"You..." he hissed. "What are you?"

Black Waltz seemed pleased with the crowd that had gathered before him.

"Ah, the princess's bodyguards have gathered!" it purred. "How very convenient!"

Zidane however, was very agitated.

"Answer me!" he snarled. "Now!"

The Black Waltz snickered, forming a battle stance.

"It wouldn't do you any good if I answered..." it replied. "...since you're all going to die! Kwahahaha! I will eliminate any who stand in my way!"

A spark of light appeared around Vivi, before it slowly began to envelope him, before a surge of white-blue energy surrounded him, his appearance seeming to change.

In front of them was Vivi in a more straightened up mage outfit which was illuminating in the Trance's light, his usually floppy hat having straightened up like the mages they had seen before.

He pointed his staff in the direction of No. 3.

"I won't let you get away with what you did!"

Vivi was slightly distracted while Steiner was whining about how many other mages they would have to fight, and Zidane managed to calm him down.

He found himself walking over to where one of the hats of the mages was hanging as he was staring at it, not really feeling accomplished about what happened, since all the mages that tried to protect him were sent off towards their 'deaths' below.

Zorn, equally angry, suddenly blinked.

"Huh?" the jester murmured, letting go of the steering wheel. "No. 3 is coming back!"

Sure enough, Black Waltz #3 was flying towards them, hissing angrily.

"I exist only to kill! I exist only to kill! I exist only to kill! I exist only to kill...!"
