Four Swords 3DS

Alright I'm ready to give some constructive criticism.

I'm really disappointed by the original game now that I have been able to play through it finally. Either the single player mode has been dumbed down, or it was really only 4 levels long? Perhaps I am spoiled by the GCN Four Swords adventure since this game was more or less a testing ground for its formula.

Luckily, the extra content levels are as long as.. Pretty much the entire game itself! The Link's awakening part had to be my favorite of all of them, and you will see what I mean. However it introduced too many new objects not used anywhere else in the game (Pedestal gem thingies? Lighting a torch with your SWORD? And blowing wind fans?) So as a result it confused me a lot at first. Not only that, but in my entire playthrough, I only needed the magnet hand.. once? Same with Chain Chomp (As much as I love him... He's useless outside one puzzle!)

It was interesting to see what they did with the "new" content however, as their designs were vastly much superior in challenge and length compared to the normal maps of the original Four Sword.

Overall, you're getting a LOT for something simply free! But don't expect it to be the quality of a retail game. This was Nintendo's excuse to celebrate their 25th anniversary of Zelda with a retrospective of the series and allowing people to finally experience this obscure spinnoff title which most have not.

I would love to see Nintendo continue with Four Swords, as they are a very underrated part of the series. Perhaps with the better online capabilities of the Wii U, they may be able to create a 3d four swords title in the vein of OoT-gameplay?

Anyways, this anniversary edition of Four Swords is something EVERY collector should have. Without spoiling much, it celebrates the history of Zelda, and I think as Zelda fans, it is a must play if they have just a four hours to kill.

Yeah, and it's not like anyone should expect it to be retail quality, because, well... it's not a retail game. It's just a free download.

And like you said, still very enjoyable. But for me, you see, I love it to death like any Zelda game.

Lishy: Hey, guess what? I've logged WAY past a four hours and it's still as fun as when I first played it, and it's definitely not something to kill time with only.

Don't speak for everyone.

It certainly is not a retail game till Febuary when it costs some money, but it just feels like they could of added more but thats just me, but it is still nice that we get an improved port.

The only thing I am disappointed by is that its resolution is designed for the DSi, and the game is stretched on the 3DS.

Sure, I can hold select when starting the game to view it in its original size and make it all crisp and clear, but there's something annoying and distracting about a big black box surrounding the game while you play. But hey, I am grateful for what I got. Wow, isn't that weird? I'm grateful.

I just got through the tutorial level and one of the missions. It seems pretty flawless but I wish the resolution fit the 3DS screen correctly. I also wish they ported Four Swords Adventure, that game was superior in my opinion. But I can wish for a lot of things, the game is still fun. I just wish I had someone to play multiplayer with, singleplayer is pretty lonely.

I'm curious, since this version of Four Swords is updated with new content, such as the Realm of Memories, would this version be considered canon to the trilogy or no? I think if it were, it could give the trilogy and the Oracle duality before it (as the Oracles moved in from their respective lands in Minish Cap) a proper place on the child timeline: after LoZ/AoL (as it seems to be commonly thought that LoZ/AoL takes place after ALttP/LA).

Feel free to disagree with me, since I'm honestly not entirely sure about this.

Probably takes place after MC cause' of Vaati's appearance in the game. Either that or this is in an alternate universe where Vaati is an ancient evil.

Well what I meant is this:

The child timeline has more incarnations of Link than the Adult's due to the latter's Great Flood. Due to previous statements about the trilogy being earliest now deemed false (and 100% confirmed to be false due to Skyward Sword's placement), it's always been so perpelexing to give it a proper placement on the child timeline. The Oracles Duality has had a similar issue in which you can play either first, so it's impossible to tell which is truly first, though most place Seasons before Ages. It's clear that where ever it is on the timeline that the FS Trilogy comes afterward due to the presence of the three Oracles from said duality, and them mentioning having moved from their respective lands.

The Realm of Memories takes the Four Links back to 2 eras of the child timeline- the A Link to the Past/Link's Awakening era, and the Legend of Zelda/Adventure of Link Era. After completing said levels, you acquire the Master Sword. As far as I'm aware, the ALtttP/LA era is usually placed after Twilight Princess, and the LoZ/AoL Era after that. To me this means if those exist in the Realm of Memories, then the Oracles Duality and Four Swords Trilogy must come after LoZ/AoL.

This is just how I see it intergrated into the series canon though. One more thing I need to consider is the Four Sword Dungeon in the GBA ALttP. If I consider my above theory of the timeline, then somehow, at some point in the trilogy, the Four Sword was sent back in time and splitting it into four separate swords, all by some dark magic of sorts. I'd personally blame Ganon for that, but meh...still needs some thinking through.

If all this gibbering doesn't really make sense, feel free to disagree.

O-kay......... :D Maybe I'll just go with Ganondork's assumption even though this timeline thing means nothing to me, it's just a pretty fun game after all :D

Its a fun game and that's what I like about it :D

Me too. At first, I was interested in playing it back when the game first appeared on the LTTP bundle that was on the GBA, shame that it required four players when they could've made an alternate option to make the other Links playable by you only like they did with this one.

I got this a few days ago, and I've been having good fun with it. Only thing I'd like to complain 'bout, though:

Hero's Trial is horrendously unbalanced. There's barely a semblance of legitimate challenge; most of the difficulty comes from surviving hordes of metric fucktons of enemies. The lack of recovery time from damage really makes it all the more aggravating, along with losing your Mystical Seeds with every death. Tip for those also struggling with the Hero's Trial: get your greedy mitts on as many Rupees as possible. You'll need them, because YOU WILL DIE. A LOT.
