dekupk5
Hello in this thread I will just post some beta findings of sms and learn more about it. My goal is to try to restore all the beta elements in sms or at least find out what was taken out. Update: It seems Strolling Stu is the creature walking around in the beta Delfino Plaza and, the beta also shows that Humans were intended to be citizens of the plaza (in the video I think it shows a girl). F.L.U.D.D. was going to be alot skinnier. Mario's Health Meter would be a sun with a number in the middle indicating his health. Update: Green yoshi was also in the beta: This is an earlier desighn of Swoopin' Stu: This type of palm tree is very thin, other than the palm trees of the final version: Petey Piranha's head popped out of the Goop Generator. The final version has a different kind of Piranha Plant head, and was covered in toxic Goop.....yuck: An extremely strange image found with pollution textures, with a drawing of a Goomba and a Parana plant not sure about the third one, I wonder what this means: It seems Gooper Blooper Is blue instead of white and has different colored eyes. The Boos Mario is standing next to have completely different models and textures compared to the final version. The Green Yoshi in the beta seems to have a "Hungry" Meter, do you guys have any idea why that is their for? http://www.mariowiki.com/images/2/2e/Ss_sms_pre135.jpg __________________________________________________________________________________ This is just plain satisfying, now we know whats behind his mask: http://img150.imageshack.us/img150/7751/montemanman1yp.png Oh and I forget to mention that it is rumored that his model is based from the running man from OOT and I can say that it is indeed true. http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i82/girrrtacos/paint.png http://www.zeldawiki.org/images/1/1c/Running_Man_2.jpg Something impressive Nintendo did their! Update: Thanks to Sage Of Mirrors for finding something interesting in the sms demo! It seems these enemy's in the sms demo version dont retain their flowers on top of their heads when they attack unlike they do in the final version: http://i53.tinypic.com/15e9s9k.png __________________________________________________________________________________

Could that be the pattern on the shine of the pollution? Probably not, pollution textures always looked random to me, but still interesting. I might have to do some research on it myself. Sage of Mirrors
Strollin' Stu is actually still in the game's files- it loads in one of the debug rooms, but then falls through a wall. I thought about trying to port it to other maps (IE in place of Petey Piranha), but I never got far with that idea.

I remember seeing one once a looong time ago, but seeing it fall, so I thought it was just me! Also, I would bet the other texture is just a pollution texture and it's just an inside joke what it represents. The weird skullkid-like thing is probably Baby Bowser wearing his scarf. Interesting would you please tell me about how you would port the beta models correctly?I can only go so far. Edit: I updated my main post so look above if you want to be surprised! Lishy
Why has this beta enemy not been given more attention? Most videos of the test map don't even look at it before he falls Anyways, it bothered me for awhile. I'm happy to have finally had this confirmed about its existence. Sage of Mirrors
Well, It would basically be what I did with Wind Waker when I first tried to get the beta maps to work- move the model and its resources over something that you can see clearly. But now I've seen that SMS stores its data in a very different way than WW- it has no outside resources. Every level file is self-contained, and SZS-d to boot. Now, Wind Waker can read de-ya0zed .RARCS just fine. Not sure how SMS would react to them. I can't do it right this second, but I'll go a bit more in-depth to what I'm thinking would work a little later.

Im experimenting with importing models, so I will post about the models being imported in the game as I progress to understand how sms does its thing and all. Lishy
Super Mario Sunshine is my favorite 3d Mario game, so it would be a great pleasure to see the game more extensively hacked. (Too bad I have no way to play the hacks..?)
dekupk5
http://forums.hidden...e8a40edd36fcb41 At this address it seems some people have found some kind of special mode of sms called "Mario Special Disc July 2002 (J)". Its some kind of sms demo, and if any of you guys want a download or more information you can go check the thread by clicking the link. Edit: Hmmmm these are some interesting threads: http://jul.rustedlogic.net/thread.php?id=12000 http://forums.x-cult.org/topic/4929-mario-sunshine-leftovers-122509/page__p__86708__fromsearch__1&?do=findComment&comment=86708
Sage of Mirrors
I'm downloading it now. What is it, I wonder?
dekupk5
Im curious about it as well and trying to download it. I hope it will have more beta content than the finished product. Edit: This is... just simply beautiful: Simply beautiful.....
Sage of Mirrors
It's... just a demo though. Seems to have everything that the normal version has... I'm downloading a .tgc converter/extractor, so maybe I can get in and actually play some stages without dolphin crashing itself/my computer... Sage of Mirrors
Yeah. I was able to play some of it- the tgc is zz_marioTaiken5.tgc. It's largely the same as the retail version. Found a difference! These enemies retain their flower heads when jumping towards you in the final.

Do you think "Taiken5" means what kind of version it was?Hopefully I (or mabey you) will be able to find something in their that is different than the retail version, because I cant find anything too much of interest so far. Sage of Mirrors
No- it seems to be a prerelease demo that would be used in stores to showcase the game.
